Bio Photo If anyone is interested in Doan/Doane/Done genealogy, please consider joining the Doane Family Association. Information can be found here:

http://doanefamilyassociation.org/dfamembership.html

Some names of interest in my own family line include Lowther, Thistle, Milne, Henderson, Zirkle, Tedrow, Briix, and Blythe, my great-grandparents' names. My husband's family names include Doan, Corder, Dokken, Tangen, Goff, Allen and Peterson. Please send corrections/ updates; I want things to be accurate.

My grandmother, Wanda Zirkle Jilka, and great-aunt, Veda Zirkle Vickery, compiled a book commonly referred to as "The Red Book," "Zirkle Branches 1725-1978, Yesteryears and Yesterdays." There are several copies for sale if anyone is interested. It mainly outlines the history of two Zirkle/Zerkel branches which left VA, went to OH, then settled in Richland, Shawnee Co, KS.

"Life is not separate from death. It only looks that way." Blackfoot Quote

"A Visit to the Gravesite"

Dear Ancestor,
Your Tombstone stands among the rest,
Neglected and alone.
The name and dates are chiseled here,
On polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
Though it is too late to mourn.

You did not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you,
In flesh and blood and bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago,
I wonder if you could have known,
Would spread among the ones you left
In all the seeds you've sown.
I wonder how you lived and loved?
I wonder if you ever knew?
That someday I would find you in this spot,
And come to visit you?

Re: Sarah Burt Bassett
On the FindAGrave notes you start out with "He".
Don't you mean "She" ??

My interest started with Werner & going back to Walling, Elwell, Bassett, & then Burt.
Getting real confusing with 5 Bassett's same name.

Thanks for your work & contributions.

RE: Info on Henrietta Mae Bartlett
It is definitely a challenge finding correct information. But if it were easy, where would there be any fun? It's the puzzles and enigmas that keep most of us hunting for our folks, don't you think?

RE: Info on Henrietta Mae Bartlett
Thanks for the quick reply. You're right that Hattie can be a nickname for Henrietta, but it is more commonly a nickname for Harriet. I have been trying to find a Henrietta Mae Bartlett for a while now without success, but Hattie M. keeps resurfacing with her parents J.H. (who I believe to be John H.) and H.J. Bartlett. I've been using Ancestry, MyHeritage, Archives, and FindMyPast. Maybe someday we'll find the record that solves the Hattie/Henrietta mystery. In the meantime, I'll leave my records as Hattie M.

Thanks again for the help!

Info on Henrietta Mae Bartlett
Thank you for putting up the memorial for Nellie Vinnie [Davis] Bailey (Memorial #91576076). On that memorial you indicated that Nellie's mother was Henrietta Mae Bartlett. Do you have a reference for that? I have linked Hattie M. Bartlett as her mother through various census records, but have been entirely unsuccessful in finding the name Henrietta Mae Bartlett. Any sources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

McCoy
The caretaker at Oakwood cemetery told me today that the large tall McCoy monument at greenwood cemetery near the entrance was originally at Oakwood and hauled to greenwood with mules.

Photo is incorrect. This Robert died before the WAR of 1812 which is on this headstone. Perhaps a son Robert.

RE: McCoy
I'll figure it out. I'm photographing as many as I can decipher. It's weird cause it's not the same pic as on the cemetery main page.

At Oakwood cemetery Sistersville WV you have McCoy pics but they are all the same overview shot of graveyard and not individual stones? Didn't know if something happened in uploading.
I'm going to go back and photograph the ones I skipped. I'm glad there at the bottom of the hill!
