PLEASE ONLY USE INFORMATION ON SOMEONE ELSE'S FAMILY TREE ON ANCESTRY AS A GUIDE. BE SURE TO RESEARCH FOR YOURSELF TO BE CERTAIN OF ACCURACY. WE ALL MAKE ERRORS.

A favorite quote from Pastor Wayne Johnson during a Quaker sermon in Pilot Mountain, NC: "Be careful where you stand, you may be on Holy ground."

I am from Williamsburg County, SC. An organized group of us are visiting "forgotten" cemeteries on private properties in our home county. With permission from property owners, one of us as "guide" and all of us with our protective clothing and walking sticks, our goal is to visit these cemeteries and document what we find among the briars and forest debris. Our next outing is in April.

MY NUMBERS ARE LOW, BY CHOICE.
I am an active member of The Grand Strand Genealogy Club held in Chapin Library, Myrtle Beach, SC. Meetings are 2nd Saturday of the month, 10:30 am 1st floor conference room.

REMEMBER TO BE KIND to one another. It's hard to lose a living friend. Show the same respect and care to the living as to the deceased.

Please be aware of the "edit button" on your profile page.

As a volunteer with Horry County's Historic Cemetery Registration Project our goal is to gather information for county records. As we survey each cemetery, we photograph and gps each burial site/stone. We also offer our photos to findagrave.

Many thanks to these Volunteers with Horry County Historic Cemetery Registration Project:
Susan Perhala (in the field)
Rich Ryals (in the field)
Jody Mishoe (in the field)
Tawnya Gray (orig. coordinator of volunteers)
Kathy Smith (posting info)
Chris Plaisance (posting info)
Johnny McKelvey (posting info)
Michael Johnson (in the field)
Patti Burns (posting info)
Ann Phillips (posting info)

Thanks also to Roger and Karen Lambert, Don Pigate, Barbara Lehman, Tawnya Gray, Robin Pellici Moore, Deborah Spidle, Dot Harcum, and Fred Ricks for guidance and patience.

Horry County is proud to have received South Carolina's "2011 J. Mitchell Graham Memorial Award, the competition's top honor, for it's project to preserve an estimated 450 historic cemeteries in the county's unincorporated areas-approximately one for every 2.5 square miles."
(this quoted portion taken directly from Vol. 22, number 3, p 6, County Focus Magazine, South Carolina Association of Counties).

The more people we have working together, the fewer people we have to work against. The more we do together, the more we get done. The more we learn from each other, the better our results.

A difficult stone can reveal many secrets with a simple spray of water and toothbrush, or aluminum foil wrap and soft toothbrush to obtain an impression. (See memorial #51880376).
PLEASE no flour, shave cream or chalk.

My personal belief: "To each of you reading this, if you are a cemetery walker, then God Bless for your energy. And if you document your findings with photos or entries on fag.com, God Bless again and I'm grateful for your work done and your future efforts. Each grave contains someone's loved one who has passed away. Each life had meaning and still influences those left behind. We carry our loved ones in our hearts even after they are gone from this earth."
Blessings,
Susan Rogerson Perhala

Dixie & Rosie
Thanks, Susan, for your messages and kind heart - yea, those little hotdog shaped girls are something! My son's family got brave and adopted again... their 5 month old "Bella".

I'm not brave enough to do it. "It's better to have loved & lost than to never have loved at all" is easier said than done! I certainly admire those who take in older pets & unwanted ones...if I started that, they would have to come and take me away - because I could never part with another one.

Seems silly in comparison to a human loved one - (been there also). But thanks for the laugh about "puppy grandma", but I am already telling my son to let Bella come over in "grandma's" yard more often; I have even stooped so low as to give her a toy of Rosie's when she does! ~Cheers, Shirleen

RE: Pettus stone at Belair
Hi Susan,

Not a problem on snapping the pictures. The Pettus family is actually a rather well-known name in this area. There at least five roads with that name that I know of. You may want to check out: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~scyork/Pettus2.html for more local information on the family.

Happy Researching,
Chris Ryan

RE: George Price
Hi Susan,

Here's the link to the City of Savannah burial records.

http://www.savannahga.gov/index.aspx?NID=738

It's the same information as on the kiosk at Bonaventure, but you can access all the public graves which includes Greenwich, Laurel Grove and Colonial Park. Just click at the bottom and a window will come up. You then can choose all cemeteries or select one.
Greenwich is considered part of Bonaventure, but it' a separate cemetery. I hope this helps if you want to look something up. You can use the link or just google 'savannah burial records.'
I always attach information to the first photo whenever I fulfull a request, including whoever else is in the plot and I usually post pictures of those as well.

RE: Grace
No, her obit didn't mention the burial place. I don't believe it was in Hart County, perhaps in the Atlanta area?
