Bio Photo 2012-- from Upper Tract, West Virginia
Two years ago I had no idea where most of my ancestors were buried. I googled my g-g-grandfathers Isaac Alt and Alfred Kimble and found them on this site. I thought I might be able to link my family to them. That's how I got started. I had my sister go with me to show me where the Shreve and Kimble graveyards were in Smoke Hole. I must have caught some kind of bug in those graveyards that I can't get over. I'm adding the graveyards in the Upper Tract area. Most of them are not my relatives so if any one would like a transfer or link made just let me know. Feel free to copy any photos on my memorials for personal use. If added to another site, it would be nice to state where it was found. Let me know if you find any mistakes for I know they will be some.
I would to thank Jennie Hott for asking me to help record the updates for the cemeteries in the Upper Tract,Kline, Smoke Hole area for the new Pendleton County grave register that the historical Society has done. Also thanks to Denton Alt and Jack Hedrick for taking me and finding the cemeteries.

The following poem was written in 1906 by Walter Butler Palmer.

Dear Grandfather,
Your tombstone now, stands among the rest; Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out on polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care, It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist, You died before I was born.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse, Entirely not our own.
Dear Grandfather, the place you filled One hundred years ago.
Spreads out among the ones you left, Who would have loved you so.
I wonder how you lived and loved, I wander if you knew,
That someday I would find this spot, And come and visit you.

I will gladly transfer your family to you- If you want to send me a list (name and Find A Grave#) of who you want transferred.

I also see you are working with Pendleton Co Historical Society. I have done a lot of pics at Northfork because my granddad and grandmother have family there Nelson and Bland. I have done some Kimble Graves there as well.

Any you know are yours at either cem that I have put on there, I will trans to you.

I just love doing the inventories and looking up the records on WV culture and at the Courthouses to link the families together.

RE: eve full kimble
Richard,

That's a picture I took back in the 80s. I thought I had more from that cemetery but haven't found any yet. I'm going thru all my old negatives. If I do I'll be sure to post them.

RE: Susan Jemima Champ Shirk
Dear Mr. Kimble,

I do not think that is a picture of Aunt Susan "Sis" Champ Shirk. On first inspection, I could not tell if it was Susan. Comparing it to the only picture I have of her, it did not look like her. The woman is far less bulky than Aunt Sis.

I talked it over with my Aunt, Susan would have only been in her mid 50's during the time of the picture if the baby was Erma Jean. (I suppose that would mean she should be younger if the baby was not Erma Jean). The woman in the picture appears to be far older than that. She lived with William Shirk and Wilda Jane Kimble--neither of whom are in the picture. although, she could have been visiting at the time.

If you look at the photo you submitted for Charles mother, Lucinda Ellen VanMeter, I think that it is most likely her based on size, shape, hair style, time frame, and association.

Sincerely,
S. Tustin

Susan Jemima Champ Shirk
Hello Mr. Kimble,

I was wondering if you would be willing to tell me more about the picture you posted of Susan Champ Shirk? She is my great Aunt, and used to visit my grandparents.

Sincerely,
S. Tustin
