I am a retired high school history teacher, having taught in the public schools of St. Mary's County, Maryland. I am a native of Huntington, Suffolk County, New York.|
I have been interested in visiting old cemeteries since I was a child, when cemetery visiting was a family activity.
I began a project during the American Revolution Bicentennial to update the cemetery lists held by the St. Mary's County Historical Society, Leonardtown, MD. This project, using high school students, extended into the early 1980s. Some cemetery lists were published in the "Maryland-Delaware Genealogist."
I worked with the GenExchange Project adding cemetery data from both Long Island, New York, and Calvert and St. Mary's counties in Southern Maryland. I have also worked with the longislandgenealogy.com site.
I am editor of the "Generator," the quarterly publication of the St. Mary's County Genealogical Society and am also 2nd Vice President of that organization.
Currently, I'm a member of the Sgt. James H. Harris Camp #38, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. We are now in a project to identify & mark graves of the known Union soldiers in St. Mary's & Calvert counties.

|KLJ.||RE: Ida B. Sammis|
Hi. It would be nice if they had spaces for more than one last name; however, their rules state to list it as it is listed on the headtone. In this case, it should be Sammis bc that i how it is listed on her headstone. (I uploaded picture.) I have seen people use a space in between two last names but hers would be three last names. She was Ida (Bunce) Sammis Woodruff Satchwell. That is actually how she is listed in wikipedia. She was known as Sammis, even after her remarriages bc of her political career (first of two women elected to NYS legislature). She has either a book or article published and used Sammis as her last name. It was many years after hubby #1 died.

I think you might have the wrong parents of "John Barber & Frances
Barker" for your "Joseph Perry Barber".
Our family member Barber was born in St Marys, Maryland about 1869-75
his birth dates are all over the place. All his life he went by the
name of "Joseph P. B. Barber" and Not (Joseph Perry Barber). You can
see this from the 1880 census with his parents,John Barber & Frances
Barker. 1880 census Home is in Mechanicsville, St Marys, Maryland.
The middle initial of (B) in his name i think stood for his mothers
maiden name of "Barker". From 1900 through 1940 censuses, Joseph P.
B. Barber his wife Annie S. and there only child "Willa L. Barber"
born 1910 District of Columbia, Washington, D.C. In all the censuses
he is listed as "Joseph P. B. Barber" even also in the Washington
D.C. Directories. His parents are buried at "All Faith Episcopal Church Cemetery" Mechanicsville, St. Mary's County Maryland.
The Cemetery you have is a mumber of miles south of Mechanicsville, at Joy Chapel Cemetery Hollywood, Md. There would be no reason for him to be buried at Joy Chapel Cemetery Hollywood, Md. When his parents are in "All Faith Episcopal Church Cemetery". From the 1900 census through the 1940 censuses the family live in Washington, D.C. and Not in Baltimore, Md.
His siblings were:
(Amelia G. Barber 1870-)
(Mary Frances Barber 1874-1880) Burial: All Faith Episcopal Church Cemetery.
(John Gwinn Barber 1876-1942) Burial: Congressional Cemetery Washington District of Columbia.
(William C. Barber 1879-1968) Burial: Congressional Cemetery Washington District of Columbia.
Thank you for the transfers.

|Conservative Patriot||Sacred Heart Bushwood|
Do you know if all the readable graves at Sacred Heart Bushwood, St Marys County MD have been put into FindAGrave. I have some relatives we think are buried there, but not yet found on FG.
Do you know if the church has burial records?
