Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in the Carytown section of Richmond, Virginia, USA, an urban environment second to none. I grave the area of New Jersey to Georgia, looking for lost or forgotten cemeteries.

And often while walking those cemeteries I'll see some neglected or damaged or sinking markers, so I tidy them up, sometimes get more involved, then take a picture and post it, feeling like I might be their last best chance to be remembered for some future researcher. We all have the same purpose, we're all working for posterity, and I think this data base has become a number-one stop for any family history researcher.

I'm a U.S. Navy veteran, Vietnam era, duty aboard the USS Canopus AS-34. I raised a family, but lost my wife. I made a career in newspaper production, am now retired, and enjoy volunteer gravestone photography.

The best way I've found to get a readable gravestone photo is to redirect sunlight to create shadows in the carved surface.

Anyone who wants to use my photos may do so, without any restriction, so help yourself. They have been posted here for you to use. And if you want a transfer, simply ask for it.

George Norton
Rich, thank you so much for your response to my photo request of George Norton. The Richmond National Cemetery is a beautiful place, it sure honors the soldiers that are buried there.
Thanks again,
Sue

Ok added Alberta and made requests to all the girls linked to the wrong mother. Let's see what happens. Thanks so much, Rich.

RE: Robert Leonard's wife ~
Fixed the wife link.

I agree. I think this person should be in Rose Hill; however the family researcher stated she had a picture and would be posting it. She hasn't. I am putting this person back into Rose Hill where I had him originally.

Elizabeth Johnston Dawkins
In the Dawkins Family Cemetery near Salem, Alabama, Elisabeth Dawkins (#42481151) is listed with maiden name Johnston. The name, Johnston, is not on her grave, and I have seen it as Hines in other places.

Just wondering which is correct.

Thank-you for your time taking the photos and replying to all the requests. Jean

No, I'm not related to ~
~ the Provosts buried in Enon Cemetery, Bullock County, Alabama, but was just passing on info that I'd found regarding the wives of William Franklin Provost (1821-1895) - Just my way of paying forward for all the help I'd received over the past decades of seeking help on my own family history research.

RE: Double Churches Cemetery ~ Sturkie
Good Evening Rich,

I deleted the extra pictures that I had posted on these two photo requests for the Sturkie's as you asked. Just to let you know there were several other Sturkie's in that area of the cemetery. If you need me to search for any others please let me know.

Thank you,
Sandy Guthrey

RE: Linwood Cemetery ~ Judge Williams
Hi, Rich - I hope you're well. As you may be aware, because Wm. F. WILLIAMS' grave is unmarked and he saw service in the CSA, he is eligible to receive a grave marker from the Veterans Administration. I am preparing an application for one, but since I'm not related, I need authorization from someone who has a family connection to him. As you had requested a grave photo, I wondered if you might be kin or know of someone who is and might be willing to authorize me to apply. You probably know that the VA doesn't care how distant or indirect the family connection is and does not require documentation of it but merely a statement as to the relationship. I have successfully applied for and placed about 30 such monuments in the local area over the last few years, and I have everything I need to apply for this one except the family authorization. You can reply by messaging here on FindAGrave or by emailing me at newsompage[AT]yahoo[DOT]com. Thanks - John
