I am an avid genealogist concentrating primarily upon the Kirby surname and whomever the females in that family married. I have worked from my immediate family back to Richard Kirby and Sarah Small from Tennessee and am now working forward from each of their children to the present, a daunting task as my ancestors tended to be very prolific!|
My interest in cemeteries started right before I was supposed to retire from the Air Force in 2001 when I took my father to Scottsboro, Alabama to see where his father and grandfather were from and visit his great grandfather's grave. The cemetery where his great grandfather is buried was neglected and in very sad condition. We decided we'd go back there armed with a lawn mower and weedeater and take care of that cemetery at the next opportunity. 9/11 happened so I didn't get out of the Air Force when planned and then one thing after another kept us from going back. Last summer we had planned to revisit the cemetery and do what we could to preserve it. Daddy's health didn't allow us to do that and his death this past September ensured that the two of us would never be able to. I understand now that it may be too late to help that cemetery as loggers have pretty much destroyed it completely. That is very sad considering how long those tombstones had been around (all early and mid 1800's many had even withstood a war) and I am even more grateful for the pictures of them I took when daddy and I were there. Now I'm taking pictures of tombstones for two reasons, one being the obvious, searching for data on ancestors and two being the preservation of history.
Feel free to download any gravestone pictures I have taken and posted.
Please before asking for a transfer make sure you have reviewed the FAG policies on transfers! You can add pictures without a transfer. You can request edits and link creations under the "edit" tab. Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The majority of folks I have added to FAG are actually related to me the exception to that are memorials in the Checotah, Greenlawn Cemetery. Outside of Greenlawn Cemetery if I have added them then they are related to me.
My major research interests are the surnames Kirby, Hamm, Ritchie, Parker, Rogers, Dearmore, Butler, Casey, Miller, Giles.

|Steven G. Rankin||Location of Grave|
Ms. Kirby, my name is Steve Rankin and James Alexander Rankin, Jr. is my great-great grandfather. We were driving home yesterday from vacation and was in McIntosh (Oklahoma) County when it dawned on me that was where my relatives were buried. So we went to the Greenlawn Cemetery to look. My, that is a large cemetery. It was already late in the afternoon, so we ran out of daylight before we could find any of them. Since you took a picture of James, Jr.'s grave stone could you tell me the location of it and James Sr's, and Mary Tennessee's?
Thank you for your work. Peggy

First, thank you for your service to our country and for your service to all genealogist.
I am a Kirby descendant. My maternal great grandparents were Robert Ransom Kirby and Hannah Christine (Reed), my maternal grandparents were Robert Sidney Kirby b:1903 d:1981 and Ruby Ellen (Goodin) Kirby b:1911 d:1929. My mother, Bobbie Ellen (Kirby) Smith b: Jul 13, 1927 d: Jan 14, 2015 was their only daughter, but she is not listed on the information as half sibling to Naomi. Can you change that, or can I do it?
My grandfather remarried Ruby's sister, Bennie Maude (Goodin). They lost 2 daughters, Bennie Naomi Kirby (buried in Kilgore cemetery, which you have photographed) and Betty who died in Gladewater, TX.
Let me know if you have a link to my tree. I am on Ancestry.com. Perhaps we are cousins!

He (35733811) was buried in the Annona Cemetery, Annona, Red River Co, Texas. His memorial chart is listed two times on Find A Grave. Can you delete one of them? Both charts were created on 10th April 2009. I discovered this when I was adding information on him from cemetery books I have of Red River Co, Texas. (Please do not transfer his chart to me. I am helping the best I can, but I am still learning and have a long way to go) Keep up the good work you have done as many will appreciate it in time.

I was wondering if it's possible that you might be related to Willis Boles. You had added his obituary to his Find A Grave entry.
I'm trying to find someone who has more information about him, as I have connections to his Boles family members. In the obituary it states that he had seven children, so I'm assuming that he had descendants running around somewhere.
Barbara Burt in NC
Thanks so much. Peggy

Hi Mary- I wonder if you would look up an article published in McIntosh Co. Democrat dated 11-08-1928 which is a Card of Thanks referring to Frances by Ida Capps and Vic Cave (her children).
Would you either post it to the memorial page or email to me email@example.com. I don't have newspaper access. Thank you so so much for all the work you do. Peggy (g-granddaughter)
