Phyllis (Porter) Zegers
Velma Young
Hi, My name is Phyllis Zegers. I see from Find-A-Grave that Velma Young (1891-1929) who died at the "Oregon Institution for the Feeble Minded" in Salem, Oregon on 5/28/1929 may be in your family tree. I believe she is the sister of Flora Young Stratton. I have recently updated a memorial for Velma on It is # 86802123. Here's the link: The memorial provides more information about the location of Velma's ashes. They are at the Oregon State (Mental) Hospital and can be claimed by relatives. I have an interest in those like Velma who died at an Oregon Institution and whose cremains have not yet been taken by the family. My hope is to let relatives know where the cremains are now in case they would like to claim them. The Find-a-Grave memorial has links to the state department in charge of the cremains. On YouTube there is a trailer for a documentary video that explains the situation with the ashes:
The Find-a-Grave memorial page also has an image of her death certificate. If you click on the image it will enlarge and become more legible.
