My family history is primarily centered in the San Francisco Bay, California area. My ancestors migrated to California from Michigan (Kent & Muskegon Counties), and Kentucky (Washington, Mercer, Lincoln Counties), with earlier stops in Virginia (Amherst & Albemarle County).|

You are certainly welcome. My guess is that the move was caused by thinking in the future. While St. Andrew was perceived as being full, the Bishop purchased a multitude of plots on the west side of Woodlawn and sales were "encouraged" within the parishes. They probably looked at having more immediate family members together at Woodlawn? Just a guess. The act was not an infrequent event.

Sabrina: I much appreciate your efforts. You have provided images of the memorial that includes my father (William A. Hamilton), grandmother (Mary Bridget Mullally Hamilton), her younger brothers Edward and John E. Mullally, father John Mullally, and mother, who remarried a Stanton years after being widowed.

Thanks Sabrina - I have all those articles (they are in the Gallery of my Ancestry tree). It is a fascinating story. I need to see the actual Will itself and find out how the challenge by my ggGF ended. I'm in touch with the genealogist at Colma and she is doing some digging for me.

Hi Sabrina - good detective work! I see the mausoleum in both photos and I think your estimate is spot on.
I've traced the family for both plots and some of the non-Carroll names in J-1-12-2 are relatives (Girvin, Murphy), but I can see no connection to the other names in adjacent plots (O'Meara in J-1-12-1, Lavin & FitzGerald in J-1-12-3, and McGrath in J-1-12-4). Similarly, I can find no obvious connection to the Kelly's in J-1-11-2, the Linehan's in 3, and the Bunton's in 4.
Newspaper reports say that James Carroll had two cousins in the city (San Francisco) so there is a connection somewhere in SF ... hopefully time will reveal it.
Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Sabrina, John Bracchi suggested I get in touch with you. And thanks for all the work you do on this site - very much appreciated!
I found your Carroll photographs particularly useful as I believe that my gg grandfather Joseph O'Carroll is buried with his brother James Carroll in plot J-1-11-1 whereas John James Michael Carroll and his family are buried in plot J-1-12-2 ... I believe, but perhaps you could confirm: are these plots immediately beside each other??

Through the Ancestry website I came across the photo of the grave with Emma's name. She is my great great grandmother. She left Cornwall in 1867 with two daughters to join her eldest, who was married to Robert Kendall, in Michigan and her surviving son Alfred. She left one daughter behind in Cornwall,my great grandmother, also Emma.I have afew letters sent from Michigan and one from Grass Valley which describes the journey from Michigan.
Are we related ?
I'm visiting California late April-it would be good to hear from you.
Alfred left a young family in Cornwall and he was my great great grandfather-my grand parents were 2nd cousins.

Thank you for honoring this war hero with your photos of his marker and final resting place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Your volunteer work and effort is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for putting the obit on the above site. I've been looking for his death date for a couple of years knowing it was in the 1890's but no proof of when. This obit answered so many questions. I do wish someone could remove the comment about he married the daughter of 104866850. That was his son, also named Antone P Herzo.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I have deleted the duplicate memorial and also updated the cemetery's records. Thank you very much!

You are right, Fr. McGough is at Holy Cross. I remember reading it in his obit. Thanks for the correction and for contacting me.
