Bio and Links
Bio Photo I joined Find-A-Grave to "pay forward" the help I have received from others.

Most of the cemeteries, in Defiance and Williams County Ohio, have been read/walked and indexed. I would be willing to look up and send information if requested. I am most knowledgeable about the cemeteries in Farmer Twp. and Washington Twp., Defiance County; and for St. Joseph Twp., Springfield Twp. and Pulaski Twp., in Williams County.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

OF INTEREST to others may be the link to the Williams County Public Library (WCPL) obituary index. Anyone who has died in the Williams County, Ohio area since 1870 is most likely on the index. Many Defiance County, Ohio obituaries were included in the Williams County newspapers. I suggest searching by using the last name only. Keep in mind the spellings may vary so try several options if you do not get results on the first search. If a name is listed more than once, it is because an obit was published in more than one local paper. Not all of the papers have been added, so check back often to see if there is a new entry for one of your Ancestors.

The obituary index direct link is
http://obits.mywcpl.org/ (updated 01-2015)

You can request obits online and they will be sent by email.

The link to the WCPL library history and genealogy department is
http://www.mywcpl.org/local (updated 01-2015)

The above URL will have links to Williams and Defiance County Genealogy Society websites.

RE: Ernast Brayton edit
Hi- I do not recall this one but it takes several days for a edit to get approved. I get quite a lot every day so it can take me to 2 or 3 weeks to work thru them. Jarrott

Thankfull Martin edits
I have sorta dedicated myself to upgrading Find a Grave memorials because so much more information has became available. This has caused me to add many more relatives to my family tree.

It makes me happy when to learn that my edits are useful to living people.

I am a distant-distant relative to both families, but really can't claim, for sure if I am a blood relative.

Thank you for the follow up.

Thank you very much. This is my maternal great grandfather and I never knew where he was buried. I do know some including living in or around Akron but this is much appreciated.

Sophia Scranton
I talked with Toni today. She remembered your visit this summer. She said the Big Prairie Cem. record shows there is no marker for Sophia, Rosa or Rose. She also said she contacted the Big Prairie sexton and he was going to do more checking and leave you a message if he came up with anything. Apparently this would have been one of the first burials at Big Prairie. As I said previously, it is quite likely there was no marker, or possibly a wooden marker which would have disappeared long ago.
I photographed all of the markers there in 2011 and did not find a marker for her.

RE: Nicholls Memorials
I apologize for the extreme delay in responding to your message. My genealogy work got put on a back burner for a while, and I am just now getting around to responding to messages.

I am related to the Nicholls family. John B Nicholls is my 3x Great Grandfather through his son, Simon.

I wish I could say that I have done much research on the Nicholls side, but unfortunately that is one of the branches on my never ending "to do" list.

RE: Sophia Scranton
I only have three photos from Big Prairie that I labled unknown. One has the initials "T S R" and is in the Potters section, another is an aluminum funeral home temporary marker and the third I have labeled as "Unknown Charles". I will see if Toni Rumsey is in Wednesday or Thursday (the days she is at the Museum) and see if we can figure out who is buried around the lot you mentioned. Being a grave from the mid - late 1800's it wouldn't surprise me if there is no marker at all. I did keep a record of the pictures in the order that I took them so if we can figure out who is buried around/near this grave, I should be able to figure out where it is. Hopefully the cold weather will hold off.

No problem. Glad you like them. Did you notice Son Lester 1913-1936 is next to Emma on the stone?

RE: Sinlings of Emily Scranton Jones
Hi, Mary Joan
Thank you so much for links. Emily is my 2nd great grandmother. James would be my 2nd great grand uncle. Cathy and Larry are wonderful people. Cathy is my 1st cousin 1x removed. I grew up knowing of her, but didn't meet her until 2006. Up until then I had NO information on my Jones line. Which is where I connect to the Scranton's. Cathy gave me a copy of that picture of Wm and Emily and also showed me where they are buried. The rest of the family, other Jones and the Scranton's just fell into place easily from there. I have quite a bit of info on the Scranton's since they seem to be mostly from the Hicksville, Ohio area. I live just 30 minutes from Hicksville. I have been able to find most if not all of their place of burials. I even located the homestead that Hiram and Mary Scranton James and Emily's parents, had outside of Hicksville. I spoke the lady who now lives there but she didn't know the Scranton's. But she did know some history on the house. Which was very interesting.
Anyway, again, thank you for the links. If there is any information I feel I need, I will contact you. Since I also have quite a bit of info, you are also more than welcome to contact me. I really enjoy finding extended family and learning about the family history.

Take care and God bless,
Kendra Jones Haynie

Jessie Stiffler
Hi Mary,
I added a biography that I started for Jessie which I haven't quite finished yet. Jessie was adopted by the Burris'. I originally thought that she had been adopted when she was an infant, but there are indexes to the infirmary in Marysville that show her still being with her biological mother until the age of about 8. (Jessie had a twin sister Bessie who appeared to had pasted away infancy and a younger brother Perry Carl who I was not able to trace) I'm not sure if you noticed that Jessie was listed as a boarder on the censuses when she lived with the Burris', and Inez was listed as a boarder on the census when she lived with Jessie and Louis after Randolph passed away.
Nettie was from Unionville in Union County. I have not been able to find her parents nor the father of Jessie. Nettie most likely would have still been at the Ohio School for the Deaf when Jessie was conceived.
I do believe that Randolph and Inez raised her as their own child and my grandmother has 2 family photos of them and they look like a loving family. They did not have any biological children that I am aware of.
