|Ann H.||Cataract surgery|
Hi Elsie, I just had the Cataract surgery on October 1. I had many test done by 2 different doctors. None of the test were painful. I told my doctor that I was scared to death and did not want to remember any of the Cataract surgery.
I took the drops before the surgery. When I went in to have it done my family was with me. I was given the IV and taken to have it done. I do not remember the operation. Unknown to me I did do a lot of coughing. The doctor later told me it was like working on a roller coaster ride. Now I see better than I have in years. I had the eye drops and as the bottle went empty they told me I would be done with them one by one.
Before I had it done I woke up and all I could see was fog and shadows. I could only make out outlines and that scared me so bad. To know I would go blind helped me to get over my fear enough to have the surgery.
I only had the patch on for 5 hours since the doctor said I could take it off then. He only let me take it off early because I am blind in my other eye. Everything looked strange but the next day I could see so good. Don't let it go so long you might become blind. Love, Ann

Hi Elsie, I just wanted to let you know that the surgery isn't as bad as our minds make it out to be. It's natural for one to be nervous and I hope my exclamation helps you make up your mind. You will benefit from surgery in the long run AND I wanted to send my experience while it was still fresh in my mind.
I've been doing some of my sponsorships, using my right eye, but it's sloooow going. Didn't realize my signt was that bad.
Thanks again Elsie for the well wishes. Best regards to all.

Excuse any mistakes, writing this with my right eye only, which is my bad eye. . . I can assure you there is NO CAUSE for being scared, even though U are going thru what I call the 3 W's,[Wait, Worry & Wonder]. . . Lots & lots of paper work, long & detailed eye exam & a Pre-Op Physical Exam. [It MAY be different for you]. . . 3 days before Surgery [2 Meds in Eye, 4 times daily. . . I was so nervous & scared I made myself sick the day of Surgery, until they started getting me ready, after being at the Hospital for 2 hours... You will be in Hospital garb, Anesthesiologist hooks U up to the IV for relaxation, Blood pressure machine, [& for me a Heart Monitor]. All of this before you go to the OR... IN OR ROOM - You don't feel when he 'deadens' the eye. The ONLY thing I felt was "Pressure' when he inserted the LENS & he tells you everything he is doing...[DURING THE OPERATION, ALL I SAW WAS A KALIDASCOPE OF BEAUTIFUL FLASHING & WAVING COLORS.] so I concentrated ONLY on those colors. The operation was over in about 10 minutes or so with NO PAIN what-so-ever... I was very relaxed from the IV. I was back in the Recovery Room within 30 minutes. Then stayed in Recovery about 45 minutes to make sure I was ok... When the Doctor took EYE PATCH off the next day, my eye-sight was unbelievable in that eye! Everything was SO [Bright & White] while the other eye was seeing things [Dingy & yellowish] as if coated with a NICOTINE-LIKE film. WOW! I was shocked at the difference. However, cannot tell, as of yet, if my eyesight has improved, as all is blurry now, until SWELLING in eye dissipates... After Surgery, [3 meds in eye, 4 times daily] until next Doctor visit [7 days] on December 12th... That's about it - HOPE THIS SYNOPSIS HELPS YOU DECIDE ABOUT YOUR NEED FOR SURGERY...Will let you know of future developments.
Bye for now & take care.
