Bio Photo First and foremost... Many thanks to the two interpreters that have been a tremendous help: Nicholas Maskalick and Frank Klawonn

Our Motto: No Cemetery too big, no Cemetery too small, if we can't find a marker, it's not there at all!
We, the genealogist and the photographer, really enjoy being volunteers for Find-a-Grave. It is very gratifying to be helping others and making new friends. Also, it is enjoyable seeing the earlier generation's monuments, crypts and markers.
We are a retired military family (USMC). After over 22 years we settled in Pittsburgh, Pa. Charlie is from Tennessee, Mary grew up in Pittsburgh. (Mary won the tossup.)
Thanks to all for the great responses of our findings. They are the icing on the cake!

Hi Mary,
Her last known name was Porta, her first marriage was Yahner and her maiden name was Conrad. People searching for Yahner will find her first husband's memorial and see the connection. Or if they know her maiden name, they will find her. It's just difficult to find someone when there is a hyphenated name and you don't know that. Porta is on her head stone, so that's how her last name should read, in my understanding of Find A Grave. Thanks for your help, it's always nice to work with others.

Thankyou! When I click the newspaper picture to go bigger, I get an error. Is there a larger picture of the newspaper obit? Can you fix the link to the larger image? Thanks!

Find A Grave Memorial # 9357058.

Thank you for the marker photograph. I have associated it with his record in the Coffelt Database of Vietnam casualties to document his place of burial.

Best regards,
Ken Davis

RE: obit assist
Thanks for the info. Apologies for the delay in response. Took me awhile to figure out how to access the news articles. The easiest way, I discovered: Simply put in google news archive search; x, and an alphabet choice of newspapers appears; x "p" (for e.g.); scroll thru newspapers; x on name of paper; enter date you're searching for; you can then scroll thru the newspaper ( x any page and it will enlarge). The only problem I found with the site was that you could not print the page/ I had to copy it by hand. After I've typed the articles, I'll post them (or parts of them...they're long)on the memorial. Robert and Scott Paternoster died in a tragic house fire. The landlord was cited for violating an order not to rent the apt until violations had been corrected (Pittsburgh Press). The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (p 4) has a detailed account of the fire. Heartrending. For your info, the links you gave in your message could not be accessed from Find A Grave. Thanks again for your help. Merry Christmas.

And yet another thanks for locating and photographing these graves, and including obituaries! Could you tell me how / where you access the Pittsburgh Press obituaries? Thank you so much.
