Corporal Joel Thompson Martin, Co. A,86th Illinois
Dear Betty, I am working on a biography for Joel Thompson Martin and am hoping to be able to add it to his Find A Grave site. Joel lived until 1892 and there must be many pictures of him out there somewhere, perhaps even some of him in uniform. At this point, I'd be thrilled to see a picture of him as an old man. Is it possible you have or know of any pictures of him that we could add to his Find A Grave site?
If you are interested in learning more about the men he served beside, please check out my Virtual Cemetery for Co. A, especially the sites of his Company officers, William S. Magarity and Joe Major.
Hoping to hear from you.

Sincerely, Baxter

You are welcome. If I were you, I would call West Park Cemetery. The phone # is (806) 364-7006. They can tell you at least if she is buried there.

Sometimes they change their minds at the last minute where they want to bury someone and the only other place she could be buried in is West Park Cemetery since it is the only one that existed before 1950. I photographed the whole cemetery so it may be unmarked but that would be the only place she could be. Hope this helps you

I am walking the whole Cemetery where you have her burial but she can't possibly be in that cemetery since the oldest grave in it is in the early 1950's. So, you will need to mark her burial unknown. The oldest cemetery is West Park Cemetery and I walked the whole cemetery and photographed it, so she can't be in that one either. The only other cemetery is Saint Anthony's. Are you sure you have the right town for burial?

RE: Jess & Veda Crane
Hi Betty,

No, I am glad for you to keep the account on Jess and Vada. I appreciate you putting the records on here as I don't always have computer access.

Barbara was one of my favorite aunts. She was always nice to me. I remember going with them to the Springfield Fair when I in high school so I could help her watch Kenny and Nancy--they were quite young at the time. She was a very hard working woman and loved to laugh.

It was nice hearing from you and thank you for your work on this website.

Hi--my reference to "new" was from wording in 1961. The cemetery where the remains were moved is the one in the pictures shown. The stones are marked with numbers.

do you know how to identify the numbers to the people.
