Calvin C Phinney. Hi Robert! I jut found a paper that I have been looking for! It is the State of New York's newspaper notice looking for Calvin C. Phinney of Black Hawk Iowa and two other siblings in Wisconsin and Illinois in order to settle the estate of their brother Alson. Your Calvin IS the son of Luther and Mercy (Billings) Phinney. I am going to Albany NY to do some research Thursday-Sunday of this week. I wish we could figure out how figure out how Calvin - Luther - reach John. I have checked many times and John of Vermont, who served in the Revolutionary War, has no record of sons Luther or Calvin. How did your grandmother make the connection to Vermont? Possibly Luther is John's Grandson? How I hope! My great grandmother Lucinda was your Calvin's niece. Do you have any information about The connection to John Phinney's of Monketon, Vermont? Your grandmother's application to the DAR lists oral family tradition for any information for Calvin's parents. Help, please! ~ Your somehow cousin, Eleanor.
RE: Bessie Redfern Edits Hi Robert, Thank you for the information on Bessie and her hubby. I will make a notation/comment on her memorial from that 1940 census. This will help others who are looking for members of that family.
Bessie Redfern Edits Hi Robert, Thank you for furnishing info for Bessie Redfern. I just processed the edit for her spouse. Can you cite a source for me? Also, if you are related to these Redfern's here in CA, I'd be more than happy to transfer them to you. I am not related to any of them.
Fred & Bernice Schopp Rash Thanks for sending this information. I have linked one son (Robert) to them and added additional dates. I looked for Bernice's parents but they do not have Find A Grave memorials yet so I added the information under bio. Unfortunately, I cannot add the other two children because they are still living which is against Find A Grave guidelines.
Thanks again for forwarding this additional information.
RE: Phinney's Hi, hope you are getting some spring weather in Iowa, the ice is finally almost off my roof and the snow is melting! This has been a brutal winter in Syracuse NY!
Have you had a chance to look at the last message I sent to you. I have been working on our Phinney line for years. There wouldn't happen to any male Phinney's in Iowa that would do a DNA test? There are none in this area that I am sure are from our family line. Calvin's father I am sure was Luther. You book list Luther as John's (patriot) father. I think that is where their linage gets flipped. Records indicate that John had 8 children and a handicapped daughter Laura, that would mean 9 children in all yet I have never found a 9th. Luther's two oldest sons were born in Vermont, right near where John is buried, before they moved to Cato, NY. Luther and Mercy (Billings) are buried in Cato and there large stone still stands. I purchased Harriet's application from the DAR and I saw that they sent Harriet a letter because she had no documentation for Calvin to John. The DAR states later that it was oral family history. Do you know if Harriet ever came to NY or Vermont? I find it amazing that all this mostly accurate information made it to Iowa! Edwin was only a teenager when he moved from Syracuse to Iowa and he probably would not know any family in Vermont. Somewhere there must be a link from Luther to John the patriot. I know it's wishful thinking , but are there any old Bibles in Iowa? Any other older family member ears with any information? My great grandmother, Lucinda Young is the grandaughter of Luther. She was born in Cato but lived her married life in Waterloo, NY and married Samuel Green. I am a member of the DAR through Lucinda's grandfather on her mothers side. Best wishes, Eleanor
RE: Emma Steffen & Soukups Maybe one of the girls went by their middle name?? Strange.... I will search this further when I have a little more time. Thanks for adding the obituary for Mary to her memorial.
