My father was born and raised in Rockingham County, Virginia -- as were many generations of his ancestors. My passion to discover his roots has led to digging deeply into old dusty records to bring my ancestors to life and put flesh on their bones. . . . to know more than just names and dates, but to know them and their challenges. I have authored two books of stories, photos and genealogy of my father's family. My family names include Hensley, Maiden, Meadows, Gardner, Smith, Baugher, Eppard, Moyer, Berry, Broyles, Yager, Clore, Cave, Sampson, Keyser and Wyant.|

Frankey married first Bird Snow; they had a child, Mary B.1862; he was shot as a deserter during the Civil War. Next in 1867 she married William 'Smith' Shifflett and had several children: Gincy 1867, Bryant 1871, Sarah Jane 1875, and William 1881. At some point @1900 she left her husband (no proof of divorce) and appeared on the census as Frances Knight, living near her original family. Linda Shiflett Fletcher Fletchls447@comcast.net

Thank you, I had been on here years ago, and was really getting into doing the family tree but work had to come first, now I am almost close to retirement so I am trying to get back into this again. While I have forgotten a lot of proper protocol on this site, I hope to get better at doing the right way of asking etc. My sister has really taken off with this and has been a great help to me in doing some of the leg work. At any rate, I think I did finally get Jennings linked to his parents, I am not sure but I believe that most of his line has passed on.
Thank you and have a pleasant day,

Wife of John Crum.
I need your help on this one. My Elizabeth Crum, wife of John Crum was born in Wythe Cnty, Virginia in 1777 but lived in Clark Cnty Indiana with her husband He died in 1820 and I do not know if she went back to Virginia and this grave site is hers or not.
in 1862, my Elizabeth would have been 85 yrs old, not 31 yrs old. Is that clear to read on the stone? My ELiz's maiden name was King.. Is this Elizabeth Crum buried close to any "King" people who might be her family? Is her John Crum buried near her?
Thanks for your time.

Charles Wesley Dovel (1892-1914) was my GG grandfather.
My grandmother (Rosie M. Snyder) also told me the story of his unfortunate drowning, not long after he married my GG grandmother Edna Mae Hensley.
Thank you for creating this record of him and for all of the other work you have done to record the history of so many of my relatives in Virginia.
Jan, I don't understand why you want the Biedler photo removed from the L.L. Brubaker memorial when Brubaker's name and dates of birth and death are shown on that one stone. I do not think there is a separate marker for him, except for the marker (no dates) which I also posted with his name on top.
It appears Mary Biedler Brubaker is the sister of Lester L. Biedler and the wife of Lester L. Brubaker and all three names appear on the memorial stone.
I'm sorry I don't understand.

I'm sorry I looked at those dates wrong. I realized it as soon as I hit ENTER. Sorry.
It seems there are three names on the marker:
Lester L. Biedler 81917813
Lester L. Brubaker 88231165
Mammie I. Brubaker 123324931
I also got confused with the spelling of Mamie or Mammie.

Thanks for letting me know. I thought I had it figured out, based on what I dug up. There were at least 3 different men around the same time in the area by the same name. A Rev., the Col. and a Magistrate. Back to the drawing board.
