Under the "EDIT" key: You can Suggest a correction or provide additional information for any entry that I have made. Please send over the Parents and Spouse links on this also. You can also ask for a transfer under the EDIT key, then I have your ID # and can easily do the transfer for you.

I would be happy to transfer ownership of a record that I have added, if they are family and have more information that they would like to add.

Thank you for all the flowers and notes that have been added to the memorials that I have added.

Cheryl,

Thank you for submitting a picture of my father's grave at the Florida National Cemetery.

Today, on his 109th birthday, I updated his memorial page with a biography. Wow, what an interesting life! If you get a chance, please read it.

Thanks again,
Richard

Hi Mz Cheryl,
I was wondering if you could possibly tell me-if you might know-about a particular set of grave stones you found/listed. You may have solved a long-standing mystery for a particular family. I just cannot be absolutely sure without at least a small amount of proof?

There is a James D[ew] Cook buried in this cemetery: Memorial #9364119
born 23 Feb 1895 (?) died 6 Jan 1955
This appears to be the same man who was married to a Grace E. Whitby and lived in Chicago and then in Decatur Co. They had one son, John Lee Cook (the Lee would've come from his grandmother, Fannie Lee Cook, if I am right???). Anyway, if I have the right man, James Dew Cook [jr] came from a well-to-do family of Cooks down in Pickens Co., Alabama. And he had married young-was it forced (???)-to one Vera Stacy Stewart (her father had acquired about 1/3rd of all the land in the county beginning some time after the end of the War Between the States ;-) They had one son together: James Dew Cook III. Before Dewey was a teenager, his father left. Last word was that he had gone to Chicago and they never heard from him again. Of course the wealthy mother did fine without him and received money and help from her own dad.
In the military record (that shows Jim was born Feb 23 1894?), he was voluntarily signing up-ready to go? He says his wife and son are not dependent upon him? I wish we had had such things as Find a Grave long ago-when I was regularly researching over a 20 year period. This opens up so very many possibilities that were once dead ends? Anyway, I think you have found a lost family member. And-potentially-another son, John Lee Cook (also seems to appropriately have the "Lee" middle name?). You found him, too in the same cemetery. I wondered if they are buried next to each other? That would certainly come with some implications? The next question is how he died-at age 20 and before Pearly Harbor was bombed? I found someone with his name in the Navy Air Corps....and the enlistment date works out...yet the theory falls apart when that John Lee Cook is still serving in Jan., 1942. So I am back to square one as to what might have happened to this young guy?

I hope I haven't bored you to terribly. This is not a direct line for me, but I've always been attracted to the true "mysteries" in family tree hunting and am running about 50/50 with finding answers. Here in So. California, there are plenty of records...but the cost of finding them-driving for hours in traffic to get to a particular record center-is just devastating.

I know many of the grave hunters for Find a Grave out here...all characters in their own right. It's a lot of work, but all have tons of fun getting together and listing everyone.

kindest regards,
Robert e Lee jr.

Thank you very much for transferring my ancestors to me! I really appreciate it.
You have been wonderful to post so many entries, and are willing to tranfer-I hesitated due to a couple stating I was not a close enough relative.

May I use a copy of his grave photo? I wish to post it on the non-profit Supporting Heroes, Inc. This group pays tribute to emergency first responders killed in the line of duty. I will give you acknowledgement. Thank you!
