Ðévil Ki††¥ Ðésigns™ is a name we chose in honor of our little boy kitty, who is still very much alive and well deserving of the nickname! |
The people behind the name are Rob & Mary, a couple of 40-something "freaks" from Salisbury, North Carolina. He is a Florida native. She was raised in Alaska, and still thinks Florida winters are "too cold". We started photographing and transcribing cemeteries in 2004, and it's become something of a serious addiction.
We both have an interest in genealogy, photography, (especially cemetery photography) history, historical architecture & graphic arts.
Currently we are trying to photograph and record as many of the cemeteries in our area as we possibly can. We will probably still be photographing graves right up until we are put in our own. We also do volunteer genealogy research in our local area.
If you discover that we have created a memorial page for one of your relatives, please let us know, as we would be happy to transfer the page to you unless we are also related to the deceased and our relationship is closer then yours. If you are not a relative of the deceased, but would still like a transfer, please explain why you would like the transfer made(a friend of the deceased, classmate, etc). In such cases we are usually willing to transfer as well unless the person is in our immediate family.
Photos we have added to Find A Grave may be used for non-commerical purposes only. Adding them to your family tree on such sites as an Ancestry.com or to your own personal family history page etc. is fine as long as you give proper credit. In most cases, we maintain larger, higher quality copies of the photos we have uploaded here and will be happy to email copies of them to family members upon request.
Current surnames being researched

Thank you so much for adding the information to Washington's memorial and thank you for all the hard work! And I appreciate the transfer, and I will take really good care of him :)

I think we've been dealing with some of the same people! One of the most rude notes I've ever had was over a memorial at the Salisbury Annex. Don't know if you've ever noticed, someone add a new Salisbury cemetery on a regular basis. Some how the old cemetery just added 100 new memorials!
Are you familiar with the facebook page, Find A Grave volunteers. It's amazing the things people try to get away with. I just had to remove it from my news feed but kept it so I could chime in my observations from time to time.

Thanks for all you have done with these cemeteries. It must have been an enormous undertaking. Since I added all my family, have not even been in the old section for several years. Had added several there from two sections, usually secondary burials of the spouses.
Now I mostly add names which come through the Patriot Guard, some of which I attend the services. Had one person who created a whole new cemetery, then got mad at me when I pointed out I had already created a memorial in the correct cemetery. Said he was a friend and had the right to list the memorial. Just deleted mine, not worth the effort. But did manage to get Fix a cemetery to delete the cemetery!

Thanks for the note. I actually figured it out after I sent my message. Have been linking this family together. Should have realized that section E was in the older cemetery.
I try to keep watch over the numbers in the older cemetery as often people will not look carefully and just add names. Only secondary burials, i.e. spouses of those already buried there, are being done. All new burials are at the Annex. Even find ever so often people creating whole new cemeteries for the Annex. Amazing.

Thanks for catching my mistake. I'm always happy to correct my blunders. I'm not sure whether Find a Grave duped or I held my finger down too long when I created the memorial. Nevertheless, I want my records to be correct.
All the best,

Thks for making the links on Chrissie & family . Her Husband and I are Distantly related in the Foster family Tree of Fork / Advance and Mocksville but not a direct line.

Cenotaph in England has a different meaning-it is, translated from the Greek, an empty tomb [grave] so we would not regard the Tablets of the Missing as a cenotaph. The one in North Carolina is, as you say, a cenotaph. I have been involved with churchyards and cemeteries all my life and have found not more than a dozen true cenotaphs in English churchyards and cemeteries but 3 of these are in one churchyard.
Findagrave do sometimes add ‘memorial site' to the pages of those commemorated at Cambridge, but this is superfluous of course.
You wouldn't know, of course, the true date when the memorial I manage was created-but it was some years before the date showing. It was created by a contributor, since disgraced, whose name had to be expunged from the findagrave site, and the date that was done, August 6th 2010, appears on all his work.
