Doing family research since 1976. I love putting together the puzzles and lines in a family history.|
I also do genealogy for friends and other family members.
A long time ago I started doing grave rubbings on stones that were hard to read. It is amazing what shows up that you cannot see with your eye or camera (even tracing with a finger!)I have done this for others that have requested it through genealogy friendships. I simply use interfacing of a certain weight and a thick color crayon. Unlike foil or paper, interfacing does not tear if you need to get really down in an engraving.
Now that I am retired I think I will enjoy volunteering my time to Find A Grave photo requests. Many times I have found a family member in the same cemetery.
I appreciate acknowledgements for my volunteer photos, and usually ignore those that do not appreciate my efforts. Mostly, I find very polite folks on Find A Grave.

Anyway you're getting tired of my showing you my appreciation for donating time from your days just to take pictures of graves for me? LOL

Thanks for posting the photo & rubbing for Agnes. I've meant to get up to that cemetery for ages, but just don't get to it.
Have you still been working on the Mayer's? I have plugged along. No big breakthroughs for me though. Just keep at it slowly but surely
Patty, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to roam through the cemetery to take pictures of gravestones...you are appreciated more than you know.

Thank you for your reply. I am the great-granddaughter of the other Christian Mayer and Katherine Shoenecker, son of Clemens. My grandmother was Mayme who died very young so I didn't know too much about the Mayer family history when I was growing up. Her sister Frances Huff came to my dad's home to care for him so I knew her the best, also their brother Albert and sisters Stay and Shorty. I have been in contact with Lee as I try to fit the "puzzle" together, as you so aptly described.I did post memorials to Joseph Benedict and his wife yesterday because I saw they were missing and I had copies of their obituaries stating they were definitely buried at Glencoe. I'm wondering about his parents' burial and memorials? My email is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks for the connection.
