Bio and Links
Bio Photo I come from a long line of "storytellers" or keepers of family history. I was first inspired to study history and genealogy by my paternal grandfather, Alonza Nelson Parish, when I was a very young child. My maternal grandmother, Margaret Frances "Fannie" Mobley McElveen, was also a genealogist and lived to be almost 102 years old. She remembered stories of just following the Civil War.
Other than Parish, Mobley, and McElveen, I am also researching Simms, Crone, Gay, Taylor, Wellons, Coor, Liles, Rhodes, Todd, Massey, Walker, McMillan, Jordan, Brashear, Coke, Corker, Fowke, Allison, Chambliss, Northington, Chappell, Briggs, McKee, Byrd, Tilden, Sutton, Briggs, Dye, Neil, Towns, Livingston, Clark, Ruffin, Windham, Bracewell, Harden, Mattox, Crouch, Wall, Teague, Ricker, Green, Powell, Wheeldon, and Blair.
I love to help other people find their family and honor their loved ones.

Hi, I seen you left a message on Lucy Carter's memorial page. This lady is my husband's great Aunt (who he never knew or met.) It looks like from your message you knew her. Can you please share some information about her? We'd love to know anything/everything you're willing to share. If you feel like emailing me instead, my email address is
Thanks so very much!

Hey Nancy, I noticed you have researched the Gay's in Laurens Co, Ga. I, also, have Gays in my family tree & was wondering if you've ever heard of mine since I cannot seem to get anywhere with them. My great- grandma was Jennie Gay Conner (F.A.G. Memorial# 99882357) Her mother was Mary Gay; her sister= Almeaid; & she had a brother named James/ Jim who, I believe, is buried down in Alamo, Ga.
Jennie's death certificate doesn't list her parents.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)... Cathy

oh... are you the same Nancy on the William Fountain descendants FB page? :)

RE: The Gay Family
I would love to have anything you want to share on the Clarks. Elizabeth Clark was my 2nd great grandmother. Do you live in Laurens County?

I went to the Oconee Library last week, looking for Laurens County Newspaper Clippings by Tad Evans. Looking for info for Luther White @1861-1919? Their info for the early 1900's was limited.

I have the Burch, Harrell & Allied Families volumes & the Laurens County cemetery book.

RE: The Gay Family
John Jacob Asker Gay was my 2nd great grandfather, married to Elizabeth Clark. His last name was Holton & in 1841 he changed it to Gay. His mother was Mary Polly Holton.

John Gay & Elizabeth Clark are buried at the Old Cedar Grove church location. My cousin was there but didn't take a picture of their graves. There are other graves, too.

RE: The Gay Family
I don't have William T Gay or Jonah Gay, but there could be a connection I haven't matched.

RE: The Gay Family
I didn't know know much about the Gay's when I started genealogy in 2009. It seems our line started with Jacob Gay & Mary Polly Holton. They must not have been married as the kids changed their names from Holton to Gay in 1841. They lived in the area of Cedar Grove, Laurens, GA.

Thank you for sharing. So sad, I couldn't begin to think of losing 3 sons in the war.

Parish/Parrish Family
Hello Nancy.
I'm Terrill Parrish from Macon Co, NC. I've been working on my genealogy since Aug 2008 when the VA thought I should have a hobby. I'd like to exchange family information with you. May I use the information and photos you list on Find A Grave?

Terrill Parrish.

RE: Rhodes
Our line of Rhodes was from Fluvanna County in the early 1800s. I don't know currently how many remain there. My line moved to Fayetteville, NC (Robert L. Rhodes). This is the one who married the Branch daughter, sister of William M. Branch, Jr. Many of the Rhodes worked for the railroad and some for Western Union in NC or Virginia.
