Bio and Links
Bio Photo Some names of interest in my own family line include Lowther, Thistle, Milne, Henderson, Zirkle, Tedrow, Briix, and Blythe, my great-grandparents' names. My husband's family names include Doan, Corder, Dokken, Tangen, Goff, Allen and Peterson. Please send corrections/ updates; I want things to be accurate.

My grandmother, Wanda Zirkle Jilka, and great-aunt, Veda Zirkle Vickery, compiled a book commonly referred to as "The Red Book," "Zirkle Branches 1725-1978, Yesteryears and Yesterdays." There are several copies for sale if anyone is interested. It mainly outlines the history of two Zirkle/Zerkel branches which left VA, went to OH, then settled in Richland, Shawnee Co, KS.

"Life is not separate from death. It only looks that way." Blackfoot Quote

"A Visit to the Gravesite"

Dear Ancestor,
Your Tombstone stands among the rest,
Neglected and alone.
The name and dates are chiseled here,
On polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
Though it is too late to mourn.

You did not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you,
In flesh and blood and bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago,
I wonder if you could have known,
Would spread among the ones you left
In all the seeds you've sown.
I wonder how you lived and loved?
I wonder if you ever knew?
That someday I would find you in this spot,
And come to visit you?

Thank you!
Becky,

You documented the grave stone of Nancy Button McConnell, who was my Great-Great Grandfather's first wife.

We knew that she had passed away. However, we did not know the circumstances surrounding her death. The fact that she died in childbirth and lost the baby had never been shared with our family.

This information is invaluable to my family and I am grateful for your selfless service.

Sincerely,

Melanie

RE: Liberty Cemetery, Jackson Co Mo
Ok, I will double check by going to the library and accessing the KC Star on microfilm. Then I will check funeral homes for records and check the actual cemetery itself. It's not that far from me.

Frances Doan
Hi Becky, Just wanted to double check with you about the birth place of Frances. The 1880 Census states he was born in South Carolina as as well as his father with mother being born in Ohio. But then the 1910 Census says he was born in Ohio. Is the 1880 Census incorrect? Carole

RE: Liberty Cemetery, Jackson Co Mo
There is just one memorial that you created for Liberty Cemetery. It's for Charles Gibson Doan. His memorial # is 40191949.

The death record you added to his memorial shows burial at Liberty--that's a town in Clay County Missouri, not a cemetery. Charles Doan's memorial has Liberty as a cemetery in Jackson County.

There were 7 memorials on this cemetery, but now there's 5. I have contacted the other memorial owners, letting them know there is no Liberty Cemetery in Jackson County Missouri.

Thanks! ~Dolores Owen
