|I've been working on my family lines since I was a little girl and pestering my grandma with all kinds of questions. I am the mother of 6 children and 19 grandchildren. My mother-in-law gave me her records a few years ago and now I am also researching my husband's lines as well. Because of the volunteer work I do I spend what time I have left doing research. I relish the trips doing "field" work and often find myself in unusual places and far from home. Living in Texas is not close to where my ancestors lived (Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.) but I do enjoy the traveling and finding new cousins.|

|Judy Roatcap-Haselwood||RE: Delilah Wells Smith (Find A Grave Memorial# 58862813)|
Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I'm not sure why the 1910 Kansas, Shawnee County, Soldier twp., census is in error, but is was a second marriage for both Ransler Smith and Delilah.
It doesn't surprise me that Almeda was using the last name Smith in the 1910 census. Ransler was loved by all of his step-children. Almeda's natural father died when she was only 6 years old. Almeda is my husband's (Larry) grandmother. My husband's sisters didn't know that Almeda wasn't a Smith until I started doing this research. One sister spent time in the summer with her grandmother and they apparently attended or at least talked about Smith family reunions.
Delilah Wells was born 25 August 1857 to Isaiah and Margaret (McConkey) Wells. I have documented this with the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 census.
In the 1880 census Kansas, Cloud County, Aurora Series: T9 Roll: 377 Page: 308 she and James Henry Sorden are married and have two children (Walter and Mary M.R.) James died in 1898 and is buried in Plot: Section 6, Yates Center Cemetery, Yates Center, Woodson County, Kansas.
According to family history that is documented in The Sorden News that Kenna (Sorden) Trotter wrote several years ago, Delilah (Wells) Sorden moved to Oklahoma after her husband's death to be near her family. Her parents (Isaiah and his second wife, Melissa Wells) were living in Otoe Township, Lincoln County, Oklahoma. Other siblings were still in Oklahoma as well.
I'm not sure how Delilah met Ransler. According to the 1900 Census he was living by himself in Americus Township, Lyon County, Kansas and she was in Oklahoma. Somehow they met and married around 1904.
As far as I know, Delilah and Ransler remained in Kansas after their marriage until their deaths.
Along with the census records, I have family stories recorded by Kenna's The Sorden News. Kenna gathered stories from various family members and compiled them into a newsletter that she shared with family. I also have the personal knowledge of Larry's sister and Sylvia Almeda (Conaway) Haselwood, who is the daughter of Almeda Jane (Sorden) Conaway. Sylvia is also the mother of Larry.
I apologize that this is so long, but I appreciate that you want to be sure that the information you record is accurate and documentation is so very important when we are recording our family histories. Please let me know if there is anything further you need. I have not yet requested marriage certificates for all of our family members, but can do that and let you know what I find out.
Thank you again,

Thank you so much for the work you do on Find A Grave. I have found so many relatives due to the wonderful work done on this website.
Please attach Delilah Wells Smith (Find A Grave Memorial# 58862813) to her first husband:
James Henry Sorden (Find A Grave Memorial# 21280754)

I am going to contact MaryAnne Bingman to let her know where Delilah is buried, but I leave it to you and her to sort out the double entry.
Thank you for the edit, but I checked the stone again and believe the date of death (15 July) to be accurate. This also works with the age at death (22 years, 9 months, 18 days). I can send you a higher resolution image of the gravestone if you want to confirm.

I have updated the family members as requested, May God's love and peace be with you always.
|Thomas Collins||Rose A Geris, Calvary Cemetery, Pocahantas, Iowa|
Theresa, thank you for the memorial for Rose. Rose is my wife's great grandmother. We were in Nebraska last week to track down some of the Geris family history.
Are you related? You have a lot of information on the Gerises.
There are a couple of corrections you might want to make.
First, in the saline county probate, her death is listed as Jan. 8. I have a copy of the probate records and would be happy to send you a copy.
Secondly, they owned land in Saline county that was sold in March 1900. I feel that indicates they would not have travelled until after the land was sold. The Gerises were in Pocohantas before June 26, 1900, when the census was taken.
If you would send me your email address I will send the probate records and the land records.
