New Hoy Family Member: I would Love for you to Visit my new memorial for John "Doc" Hoy and leave a floral tribute. I found his very sad story in an Omaha Newspaper from April 1899. I have no idea what Hoy family he actually belongs to, but have adopted him to mine, nevertheless.

Thank You,
Kathy

John Fox, born 1751
Hi Kathy,

I'm a descendant of John Fox (he's my 6th great-grandfather), and I've been trying to help my father find a link to the American Revolution. I saw your comment below about John Fox:

"Veteran of Revolutionary War; Pvt. in 8th Co., 9th Bn.
- Kathy (Hoy) Eltiste "

Do you have a source reference or other information that would help us prove that John Fox was a veteran of the Revolutionary War? It would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in Advance,
Christine Wilson

Hi Kathy,
Would you believe I just found your email from the end of June in my inbox. I've had so much going on & the emails kept piling up. I decided to scroll down to older ones to see if I found anything important & found yours. So sorry I'm so long about tending to it.
The only thing that I saw that was wrong was his b-day & I did an edit for it. It should have been 28 Jan 1885. Was that the only thing or am I missing something else?
I've had a run of "new cousins" emailing wanting info etc. that has really swamped me besides just taking care of home etc. I guess I need to start everyday with the oldest emails.
Let me know if there is something more that I need to check. Carlene

Your welcome. For your info, I'm currently working on that cemetery and found other Hoy family members that I'll be upgrading over the next several weeks.

I see you have a number of Shivelys. My ggg grandfather is John and my gg is Benjamin. May I ask how you are related to them?

RE: Curtis Schwalm
I saw it on familysearch. He lists his father as "John" but I think he's probably talking about his grandfather

Albert Housh
Gratefully Thank You for providing the obituary.

This all fits. Born 1905 or 1906 with date of death probably Sept 26,1946 with burial Sept 29, 1946. I just looked at a 1946 calendar online to
coincide with your obituary.

Look at his father, Charles, in the 1910 Census at
Rush, Rooks, Kansas. Albert's birth year is off. I'm sure you have seen as much as I have - many times birth year and ages are off in census reports, but as you will see the following census have his birth year and age fitting the obituary.

Also, in the 1920 Census of his father, Charles and mother, Celia, they have four children of Albert, Elsie, Gladys, & David. Albert's birth year is correct plus his obituary states these
other siblings.

Albert's first marriage is to my mother-in-law's
Aunt. Yes, Albert had tuberculosis and was in the TB hospital in Kearney for several years.
They thought he would died soon, but recovered
for awhile. He fell in love with a nurse.
His first wife, my mother-in-law's aunt, and him (Albert) divorced.
Notice the name of the wife isn't mentioned in
the obituary and I don't know if my mother-in-law
remembers the name of the 2nd wife.

I can ask my mother-in-law if she remembers his 2nd wife's name, but more importantly she probably attended his funeral in 1946.
I can ask since she explained to me last evening
the details of TB, a divorce, and a remarriage
on both parties.

Albert Housh is in the 1930 Census at Brock, Nemaha, Nebraska as he also is in the 1920 with his parents, Charles and Celia. Do you happen to know how close Albert is buried to his parents in the Lafayette Cemetery?

In the 1940 Census, Albert is not with his 1st wife nor his children. Genevieve Housh is the head along with her two children of Geraldine and
Albert "Joseph" Haush - - - notice Joseph is on the top of the next page with a wrong last spelling of his name. Census is Lafayette Election Precinct, Nemaha, Nebraska. Genevieve remarried in 1942.

I could not find Albert Housh in the 1940 census in Kearney. I only have Family Search at the moment and I'm not a current subscriber to Ancestry.com - - - I wished I was!

I did find Elsie May (Housh) Smith at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Nehawka, Cass County, NE
last evening, but could not find the other two
siblings in Nebraska of Gladys or David.

Whoever pay for the head marker must have not
been willing to correct the misspelling of the
first name. Also, his father was already deceased and I can only imagine the turmoil this situation
caused the community in 1946.

Thank you indeed for Your Valuable Insight and I Appreciate Your Assistance in Clarify This.

RE: Ruby Thornton
Kathy, I found her! Her plot information somehow got deleted from our record book and for the life of me I could not remember where she was buried. I was planning on walking the cemetery when the evenings were a little cooler, but happened to be out there today and found it! It is now safely back in the record books. I took a photo and will put it on her page for you.
