I also research CRUM, STRANGE and WHITTINGTON descendants from Amite Co., MS; ROLEN descendants from Dallas Co., AL; LEE descendants from Johnston and Sampson Co., NC and Bradley Co., AR; MANLY/MANLEY, WATSON and DUBY descendants from Jefferson Co., MO; and others. I found out her connection on the 1930 census it indicates that John T. McIlwain b. 1850 is her father. So Ardelia Haseltine McIlwain Durham is her Aunt.

| ALICE H. MCILWAIN MCMANUS
Ihad a tough time figuring our this one. There is a Ardelia Haseltine Mcilwain Durham married to Doab Lindsey Durham in Louisiana then there is a Alice Hazeltyne McIlwain McManus married to William Rufus McManus they are exsisting in seperate state during 1900 & 1910. Doab and his wife live in LA and his wife was born Dec 29, 1871 and died 6 Jan 1948 in Louisiana and is in the same cemetery as her father John Theophious McIlwain. She is one the 1880 census with her parents. The OTHER Alice H. McIlwain McManus was born Aug 2, 1878 and died Oct 15, 1947 in TEXAS.
The 1930 census shows John T. McIlwain living with Alice and her husband William Rufus McManus this is what threw me and I realize there was a problem. This John is also a son of John Theophious and a brother to Ardelia H. McIlwain married to Durham. ALICE is obviously a close relative maybe a niece? Ardelia was 8 years when her father was 62years so it very possible Alice is a daughter of one of his early sons which explains why John T. McIlwain b. 1849 was living with them in Texas. So Ardelia H. NOT Alice H should be listed on find a grave as the daughter of John Theophious.Added by j mcnatt on Jun 14, 2013 6:16 AM | | | mhopk
