Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm a retired educator, the official County Historian & Archivist, Pres. of the 400 member Polk County Historical & Genealogical Society, founder/editor of the PCHGS Quarterly, and the History of Polk County, and 4 day a week volunteer at the little genealogy library I established here in Benton 18 years ago. I'm the heritage columnist for the local newspaper, the 'Polk County News', and help numerous people to 'find their Grandpa'!

Although I am not related to the majority of families whose memorials, pictures, or bios I post, I do maintain a lot of them on behalf of close family members who do not 'do' Internet. We have fairly large family files, pictures, and obituaries and I love to share those as I have time. And anyone is welcome to use the bio info and pictures, both markers and people, that I add.

My basic family surnames are Ansel and Rutha Tipton Bailey from Buncombe County, North Carolina; Revolutionary War Patriot Col. William Porter who fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain and was in the NC Legislature for many years after the War (wife Mary Gilkey); The Holdens, Garrisons, and Owenbys from NC to Fannin County, Georgia; and John M. and Jane Ann Rogers Griffith, NC to GA.

Hubby James' side of the family is Jonathan Presswood, Esybous Maynor, Womac, Buckner, Clayton, William and Sophia Moore Dennis, and the 'brick wall' we all have, Harrison and Thaney Clayton Hughes. Harrison married 2nd Elmira Silcox in Polk Co. TN then moved to Arkansas by 1880 with his 2nd family, Price, Burt, Lafayette, Byrum and Sis.

Susannah Murcella Griffith Ledford
Quick question, I'm wondering if one of hers and William Curtis Ledford's daughters was Elmina Rachel Ledford Cox. My Elmina was born Sep 1880 but married in Fannin Co., GA in 1898, so there is no record of her in a census with her parents before she was married. I don't think she was their daughter, but I wanted to confirm with someone who knew more about the family than I do before I rule them out. Thanks! :)

Ansel and Elizabeth Bradley Bailey
Hello, Marian. Like you, I descend from Ansel and Elizabeth Bailey and am a retired educator! Back in 2010 I created memorials for them on here because no one else had done so. I did not know the official name of the cemetery in which they are buried, only the location from Dr. Bailey's article in TOE RIVER VALLEY HERITAGE, VOL I. Rather than give an inaccurate name for the cemetery, I listed it as "unknown at the present time". I linked my ggg grandfather Charles and his brother John "Yellow Jacket" to them. I feel sure you did not find the memorials when you did a search prior to creating yours since they don't show up when you search "Yancey County". Last night a lady brought the memorials you have created to my attention. After thinking it over, and realizing what an great job you did with your entries--and not wanting to add further to the confusion that is already on Find A Grave, I have decided that the easiest thing to do is for me to delete my entries. Before I do that, I would request that you link Ansel to the memorial for his father Edmond, #27405247. When I delete, I will link Charles to your memorial. The memorials we created are very similar, but yours are more comprehensive. Thank you, Fran Rogers

Dear Marian,

Thank you for your note, I sincerely appreciate it. I was saddened to learn of Judy's passing, she was obviously a very kind, and decent lady, who I feel put the welfare of others before her own. I'm very much impressed by how much kindness there is in some people, and she struck me as being one of those individuals, as do you. God knows the world could use a great deal more of that. Unfortunately, I didn't know Judy either, but wish I did. Again Marian, thanks for the note, God Bless You.

Great! At least I know that she's alright. Thanks so much for the information. If I need to have anything added, I'll be sure to let you know!

Judy Price

Did you ever get a response as to whether Judy Price is active, or not?

I noted on KayT's site you asked if she is still active, I am wondering the same thing. I have left edits as well as a message on her pubic site.
