Bio and Links
Bio Photo These heroes are dead. They died for liberty - they died for us. They are at rest. They may or may not sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead.

~ Robert G. Ingersoll

Pictures and Bios:

For me a simple attribution, Michael V. Drachman 2000-2014 works for any of my bio's for personal use. (Pictures ).

Should you use my pictures and publish them elsewhere, say Ancestry or other similar PAY sites, please,, Post the link to the site here at Find A Grave.. Please remember that even though Ancestry has acquired Findagrave, Ancestry is a pay site, posting pictures there, or similar pay sites, transfers the ownership, like FB. This is mentioned in all of their disclosures.

Findagrave was built by thousands of volunteers who's time was donated for the benefit of family members and friends,,who in many cases are not able to visit the resting places of their family members. These efforts were always intended to be free of charge and should remain that way.

"I have a burr under the Saddle on this one" that being pay sites "profiting" from Volunteers work....

In the end, never let yourself become complacent to those who have went before us, always make time to remember the sacrifices that have been made for us by our Ancestors and the Men and Women of our Armed Forces who have guarded our Constitution with their lives, some gave all to secure our rights, liberties and freedom, 100's of thousands never came home....let us not forget as that would indeed make those, lives lost in vein...

A Nation which forgets its Defenders, will itself be forgotten ..

John Stanley Metcalf Info
Michael, thank you so much for the information on John Stanley Metcalfe, Jr. The obituary information was priceless! He and his two sisters were sent to the orphanage after their mother (my grandmother's twin sister) passed away. I would love to find the story of why they were placed in the orphanage when they had many, many relatives living in the area that could have taken them in. I hope to contact the family members somehow to get more answers. You opened up many new research options for me by taking the time to respond to this 'findagrave' request. Thank you again!
