Re headstone and cemetery photos:

1.In some cases, clicking on the photo will provide a much better view of the inscription.

2.Some of my photos are not of the highest quality, especially the earlier uploads. If you have a better one, don't hesitate to add it--but please let me know.

3. Headstone and cemetery photos which I have posted here were all taken by me, except two which were given to me by a cousin and a friend, who have been acknowledged on the photos.

4. About copying headstone photos: Please read Find-a-grave Policy

My photos are here to honour the people named on the headstones, and to be shared,....but if copied to any other location PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE AND CREDIT THE SOURCE.

The above notes have been posted since 2011. The following was added April 2013:

Given the number of photos found on with no credit, it seems the above is not clear. Headstone and cemetery photos may be uploaded to other sites if they are properly source credited. The source of the photo is the find-a-grave website, and the photographer.

Eliza Blakely Karley # 52553584
Hi Shirley,
Thank you so much for all of the work that you do to help us trace our origins. I'm curious about Eliza Blakely Karley (#52553584). Could you direct me to any records that give information about her?

She was born in 1853. Dr. Francis Blakely, her noted father would have been 18. In the 1861 Canadian Census, Francis and presumably his brother, Robert were both listed in Kingston, at Queen's Univ studying medicine. Francis is listed as 26yo and single. He graduates from Queen's Univ in the next few years. He wasn't practicing medicine for long before he died. He went out on a house call, caught pneumonia and died in 1867, leaving a wife, Eliza Dunn, and three very young daughters.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

Hutchinson Genealogy
Dear Shirley,, I have been in the home of Mary's two brothers, Charlie and Norman and also the home of their sister Helen, several times. I have been in the homes of many of the Hutchinsons. They told me at the time they were going to start eliminating the N from the center of their name. Some were against it.

I prefer to spell their name as on the official records and the way it was spelled for d by Ralph Hutchinson when he first came to Canada in 1626.

I have seen these records from the Hutchinson Bible and have made copies. I also have my grandmother's diary and scrapbook which contains many official records and newspaper articles, and a copy of my grandmother's genealogy I refuse to change the spelling unless they were born after 1999. I correspond with some of them still today.
It started out as Hutchinson and will remain that way, so please do not tell me to change it. James was an official in the Canadian government and spelled it with an N.

Hacketts in Huron, Bruce Ontario
Dear Shirley,

I stumbled upon your Find a Grave page through a link from Ancestry. This must be my lucky day!

I am a DNA match with the Bradley family due to a marriage of Mary Hackett to John Alexander Bradley.

The Hacketts came from Ireland to Canada. She was protestant, so I'm guessing she came from Northern Ireland. My great-grandmother was Anne Wynne, b. early 1820s in Co. Leitrim, Ireland. Wynne is a translation, and so is Hackett, for the Gaelic surname Guckian. Co. Leitrim is very close to Leitrim, and I have several other matches from Northern Ireland.

Since your surname is Hackett, I was wondering if you have an history of the Hacketts in Ireland? I know the Bradleys were from Co. Armagh, but I would love to confirm a location and, if there are any stories to be shared about the Hacketts now and then, I would love to hear them.

My email address is

Thank you so much for the work you have done. I was so surprised to find so many Hackett names!

Thank You
It is long over do for me to THANK YOU for taking the photos for the Old Methodist Cemetery in Kemptville that I set up on Find A Grave back in 2011. It is very kind of you! I also am really enjoying seeing your headstone photos at South Gower Cemetery. Many of my McCargar and Beach ancestors are at both cemeteries.

I haven't been doing too much family research the past 3-4 years. I kind of dropped off the Find A Grave radar.

With your permission I would like to include some of the McCargar-Beach photos you have taken at both cemeteries to my family tree GM Jay County Branch. I will ensure to include [Find A Grave Photo by Shirley Hacker] if it is okay with you.

Thank you very much!
