Prompted by my father to personally find all family cemeteries in the Monroe Co., TN, area, I learned how addictive "walking on the ground your ancestors walked on" is! An awakening was finding the horrific conditions some cemeteries are in, including those managed by TVA. Finding the Find-a-Grave website will enable me to more readily show the world what can happen when no one cares. I am a UT graduate with 3 grown children. Recently, I became aware of 3 African American Cemeteries in Lonsdale - the middle of the city of Knoxville, TN. Research done by Robert McGinnis proved it to encompass 24 acres, most of which became a dumping ground, was overgrown, and was a location for unspeakable criminal activity. Sheriff J. J. Jones has undertaken the clearing of the worst - Southern Chain and Longview. I am attempting to capture every stone possible and preserve the memories of these special people before they again become victims and disappear. Some photos are very bad, and I apologize. Due to the terrain conditions, I was very limited. My research priorities are Moser, Nichols, Nuchols, Davis, Cook, Clemens, Hurst, and the families involved in the Howard-McGhee-Jones Feud in TN.

RE: Amelia Lauderback
The Lauderback and Louderback markers are in different sections of the cemetery (Crestview). I did not see a metal marker. I suspect one or both markers were added a long time after her actual burial, probably by family members. I will revisit the cemetery and see if I can find where they are. I have a pretty good idea where they are within +/- 100 feet based on looking at the surrounding photos. I will email you a map in a couple of days when I find them.

RE: Gun shot victims
Wow, they killed their women-folk too. That's just cruel or maybe bad shooting. Thanks for sharing this story. This would be an interesting cemetery to visit.

RE: Ella Frankliin
I have looked at a lot of death records that you have referenced. Two things of interest. First, I'm shocked at how many men (and one woman) were killed by gunshot or stab wounds. It must have been a wild time in early Knoxville. Second, I've noted that AR Wheeler is listed as the funeral home on most death records. He and his brother are buried in Crestview!!! They were businessmen of some repute.

RE: Russell Cemeteries
I would be interested in what Russell family that Robert McGinnis got the info on the cemetery on Butler Mill Rd. I have always thought that my gg grandparents were there, but have never found any proof.

Past year, I have been doing a lot of research on the Bever line. In NC, it is spelled Bebber!

RE: Russell Cemeteries
Thanks... I have a cousin, Glenn Teffeteller, who has copies of Robert's Cemetery Books. With everything online, I felt that didn't need to buy them. i do know that Edith Little left out a lot of children because she had a child to die young. So i was told.

Appreciate all the trouble you are going through to fix Russell cemeteries on Find a Grave.

RE: Russell Cemeteries
Yes, those descriptions are correct. Plus there was another on Russell Cemetery in Rockford. My mom used to live near it when she was young. There is now a subdivision there. i was told the headstones were removed and placed near a creek. No idea where this was though. I do have some names for this cemetery. My mom knows someone still living who might know who was buried there.

C. Anderson
Tommie,

Actually, although my great-grandfather was an Anderson, they are not Tennessee Andersons. I am just working with Monroe County records to fill in some information and link people to their families. But I'll be sure to let you know if I come across one that "belongs" to me. Thanks!

RE: Russell Family
We're probably related a few times (by marriage LOL). My dad's sister married William Everett and his grandpa was Enoch Morrison! LOL My aunt had some great pictures from the Morrison family.

I'm related to Jean by William Joel Morrison, II married Magnola Russell - my grandfather's first cousin. I've come to conclusion that everyone born in Blount is related somehow.

As for the Russell Cemeteries, I'll take a look at all the images and try to figure which goes where.

Thank you for your help.

RE: Russell Cemeteries
Isaac and Eliza are my gg grandparents. I have pic of all the headstones there somewhere. I live only a few miles away so could always take more.

Any relation to Jean Nichols Smith? She is my cousin.
