The descendants of the old settlers, those who cleared the land and first upturned the wild sod to the sun, should see that the doings of those early years are fittingly remembered and recorded. |
It was once remarked by a great writer that those who take no interest in the deeds of their ancestors are not likely to do anything worthy to be remembered by their descendants.
Please leave flowers or memorials on my memorials, I believe everyone deserves flowers, and I have a great family. Thank you in advance.
A BIG thank you to those who send histories, death notices, obits and links to add to the memorials. They are wonderful additions.

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marble stone.
It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our heart contracts and beat a pulse Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so.I wonder if you lived and loved,I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you.

|Georgea Sharkey||Incorrect Cemetery|
Hello Barbara, I think we have discussed this before but I have proof that Ethel Jane Berry Lowe Ref 98650974 is not buried at Tirau Cementery but her ashes are at Waikumete Cemetery in Auckland, New Zealand Niche F2. This is my Great Grandmother and I would like to have this information changed. Can you do this? Thank you Mrs. Georgea Brown/Sharkey
I hadn't previously caught your notation that this is a pre-need memorial. Thanks for your willingness and consideration, but with that notation, there's probably no need to delete. And thanks for responding.

Thanks so much for transfering the memorial for Winnifred Clouse to me.
|John Cook||Rufus A. Lockwood|
Would anyone happen to know anything about Rufus A. Lockwood family? Thanks.
|Phillip Jares||RE: Genvieve I.|
You are welcome! Lakewood Cemetery is a beautiful place with amazing monuments so I enjoy going there. I have tons of relatives but have lost touch with most as we go our separate ways. Few in my family even care about our history, but fortunately a nephew will hopefully carry on when I'm gone. :)
Sent some edits for the above surnames at Union Hill. Bessie(VanDeusen)Adams Searing is the common link. Her parents Edwin & Cora(Corner) VanDeusen are listed on the cemetery transcription as Searing, the surname of her second husband. She is listed as an Adams with her first husband, Lewis Adams. I sent in edit requests along with several obituaries for the various memorials.
Thanks so much for your help,

|Rita McKale||Minnie McKale|
You say Minnie is buried at Oak Lawn. I do not see her listed in the cemetery book. What is your source of that information.
Rita in South Carolina
I just want to thank you for transferring my father's memorial to me. I appreciate it very much, he was a very special man.

|David Neil||Patsy Ann Boslough Neil|
My name is David Neil and I am doing some family history. I am in search for relatives living in California. Patsy Ann Boslough Neil is buried in the Hillside Memorial Park. She was the wife to Kaye Edwin Neil. I was wondering if Kaye is still alive or has he been laid to rest? If he has passed can you confirm his death date and send a photo of his grave marker. If he is alive I wish to contact him. His father and my grandfather were brothers.
Any information on the Neil family would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes the cemetery keeps an obituary and maybe you could direct me as to how I can find out how to receive copies.
Thank you so much!
|Robert Wolff||Andalusia Burdick Burton|
Were there two Andalusia Burdicks?:
There are two "Find A Grave" records for Andalusia Burdick. One states she is the daughter of David Coon Burdick and Sarah Anderson and lists her siblings. The same also states she married Ely Cook and died in Michigan in 1874.
The other record cites her husband was Nathaniel T. Burton and that she died in New York in 1901. There is no mention of parents.
There are census records on Ancestry.com that infer that the first "Find A Grave" record has been incorrectly linked to the Andalusia (that married Ely Cook) to David Coon Burdick and Sarah Anderson. Putting it another way the information relative to the Coon Family is correct, but it does not apply to Andalusia Cook
David died in 1861 leaving Sarah as a widow. There is an 1875 New York State census for Tioga, Owego, New York that cites Sarah Burdick living with Nathaniel and Andalusia Burton and she is identified as his mother-in-law.
There is also an 1880 US Census for Tioga, Owego, New York that cites the same identification.
Sarah died about 1888. Her daughter was still alive in 1892 (well beyond the 1874 date cited in the initial "Find A Grave" record) and still married to Nathaniel as shown in the 1892 New York State Census for Tioga, Owego.
In searching Ancestry.com., I have not yet found a record for Andalusia Burdick Cook.
