I am very interested in the early history of the industrial cities of Paterson and Newark, New Jersey.

My ancestors were silk manufacturers in Paterson, New Jersey, and in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Please feel free to use any and all photographs/information that have been entered. A credit to the "Friends of Cedar Lawn Cemetery" is a courteous and much appreciated gesture, but is not required if you plan to use any of the information and/or photographs for private or commercial purposes.

It is my desire to transfer all memorials of those I entered in Cedar Lawn to their descendants and all those doing their family genealogy.

I feel that by working with each other we can get this right. We each contribute from a different source allowing us to add more info than if we used just one of those sources. I think we are compiling a great store of information for relatives of the people who are buried in this beautiful, historic cemetery.

Keep up the good work!

Scott Family
Thanks for the info. Cindy & I have resolved the Henry Scott issue amicably (we are friends -- no problem there).

I had a memorial for Julia Scott Ward & her husband Martin Luther Ward. I linked Julia to the parents.

Hird transfers!
Greetings again!

I just signed on and noticed I was managing many more memorials than last sign on!~After the first transfer I was not intending to ask for the rest but I agree they should be linked! Thank so much for your time & efforts! Looks like I will be a busy bee linking them all together~ hopefully attracting a few closer family members? So pleased to be on the site and again thankful for all you have contributed in other peoples honor!

Henry Edward Hird b 1884
Hello again!
THANK YOU so much for the transfer!~ I have added a short bio & additional information on site honoring Samuel Hird!~I would like to try to link the other family members buried here if possible & to add additional "bios" and information as they are a very interesting family! I have them in my virtual but since I do not manage any of them I cannot link so maybe you can add a link to Samuel's son who is Henry Edward? I will try to message other memorials of the extended Hird family who are also buried here:) Again much appreciation for all your efforts!
Sincerely, Deb

Hird, Samuel b 1850
Greetings!~
I was surprised to find your Memorial to my Great Uncle's~Grandfather here! Although I am a distant relation I am recently involved in Geneology and have accrued many family members on my Tree on the GENI website. I am also trying to build Memorials to them here & before I begin adding names I am always searching!~Happy to find someone who has been kind enough to add their name already:)
I have all the information needed to "fill in the blanks" on Samuel's site (other family members are buried here as well)If you would like me to forward that information to you to add/update I will gladly do that~or you can do a transfer if you prefer!
Thanks again for your interest in those past~

Thomas McLean
Hi there, I live in New Zealand and have been trying to trace my great great grandfather Thomas McLean. He was a mariner and married my gggrandmother Mary Brynn in New Zealand. They had a son in 1876 but Thomas then disappeared, believed to be lost at sea. Thomas was born in Scotland in 1853 to parents Margaret and Thomas snr who were both born in Ireland. I believe they emigrated to New Jersey and Thomas snr worked in the Silk Mill. I firmly believe the McLean family grave you have posted of Thomas and Margaret McLean are my ggggrandparents. I have found a census record of a Thomas McLean in 1930 whose details match my lost Thomas but have not been able to find a death or burial record for him. His daughter and son in law are buried in another cemetery in Passaic county.
I am wondering if Thomas jnr is buried in the McLean family plot at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery with his parents.
Sorry for the long message, but I wonder if anyone is able to help?
Many thanks, Wendy McLean

Thanks for the additional information AND the new photos! The restoration work is coming along nicely. I included the "history" of the headstone in the bio. I thought it might be of interest to anyone who is related to the Post family.

Hester Clearwater Death notice
Thanks for the death notice for Hester Clearwater from the Paterson Daily Guardian. I appreciate the find and have updated the memorial with the corrected date of death.

A mystery is where her husband Frederick is buried. The monument in Cedar Lawn has his name and dates, but according to the Staff at the cemetery, there is no Frederick Clearwater buried in the plot or anywhere else in Cedar Lawn. If you ever come across his death info (DOD 10 May 1847), I would appreciate sending it to me.

Thanks again for your help!

Don't worry about repeat updates. Not a problem and no need to apologize.

Thanks for the extra info on all your recent updates.

Thank you very much for transferring the 2 sites to me. And for the record, I misspoke - Jelle and Gertrude are my husband's ggparents, not his gggparents - I was off by one generation. Thanks again. Jean
