MEMORIAL DAY

Beneath the boughs of ancient trees
A little flag defies the breeze
And every carvings's stark relief
Reminds us of a day of grief.

The flowers in the vase soon wilt
And over time, the markers tilt;

The letters on a stone may blur
But even after decades stir
The memories of those before,
Of how they'd smile and laugh and roar.

And standing on this gusty hill
I think that they are with us, still.

Hello,

Wondering if you know this couple? I'm searching for a Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) m. Edward Bramloye (surname per 1940 census and may not be correct).

This couple has a few characteristics that 'fit the bill'.

Thanks.

Thank you for sending the info on Lawrence, my great Uncle. I changed the death info but not the birth info. I know he was born in Chickasaw County. They moved to Mason City in 1911.

Fred PHILLIPS, Sr & Family
Thank you SO MUCH for transferring Fred and family so promptly! You're truly a gem! If you don't mind, even though they don't mark the actual graves, I like you to leave the babies' memorial stones. They're a great example that "carved in stone" doesn't always mean "proof". ;-}

Have a great day!

Fred PHILLIPS, Sr & Family
Lisa(?),

Please transfer the following husband, wife and children to me (#46810094):

Fred John PHILLIPS, Sr. #96273456
wife Ethel #96273476
Their children:
Ruth Annie #96273493
Elizabeth Lucille #96273553
Fred John, Jr. #96273577
Helen Louise #96273528

Fred, Sr was born in Bedwelty, Monmouthshire, Wales, the first child/first son of John Edwards PHILLIPS and Sophia "SophiE" Brock WINDOW, and was brought to America just after his first birthday.

We have no idea what happened to SophiE and John, but SophiE's mother, SophiA Tuckett (Fisher) Window-Filley, is buried at Burlingame KS. Two of my gr-children are SophiA's direct descendants, as is my good friend, Find A Grave member Robert Olsen Kyle (#46909739). I've been extensively researching the WINDOWs and PHILLIPses on both sides of the Pond for about 10 years now, and have much information to add to Fred & fam's memorials.

For instance, little Elizabeth, Fred Jr. and Helen are NOT buried at Highland in J.C. The stones you were so kind to photograph - Thank you! - are only "memorial stones", placed by families who moved out of a county or state and left behind deceased (children, in this instance).

The three Phillips babies are actually buried atop one another in one tiny grave at Mount Hope Cem in Topeka. Their "tombstone", such as it is, is a flat, hard-to-find, 6-inch square of concrete at the foot of the grave of an unrelated individual. (I have photos of all.)

I'm certain Fred & Ethel intended to move the babies to J.C. (hence the stones) but for whatever reason never did. Mount Hope staff confirmed via ground "radar" that the remains were never transferred, and staff at Highland weren't aware until I inquired several years ago that the "graves" beneath the babies' stones contain no remains. Very sad, actually.

Ruth Annie, the only surviving child, never married and was a teacher at Topeka High for most of her adult life.

Apologies for turning this transfer request into a book!
