I have been doing genealogy work for over 25 years with brief intervals of inactivity when my life took different turns. |
I love going to all the old cemeteries in South Georgia marveling at some of the old tombstones, some of which are quite elaborate and expensive even for that period of time, and thinking about how our ancestors lived. Since my husband and I shared so many ancestors (including at least three great-great-great grandfathers), it was an easy task getting information about our "kinfolk".
When my husband of nearly 40 years passed away in 2002 my enthusiasm for genealogy waned somewhat and I did little research for a couple of years; then I found the FindAGrave website and entered a few memorials. I absolutely love entering memorials and posting pictures of tombstones for so many of the South Georgia cemeteries which I have helped "survey" over the years thus enabling so many people access to this information. I especially like being able to link families and consider this one of the most important features of FindAGrave.
I believe when entering genealogy information one should always be open to criticism in order to get information as accurate as possible -- especially when it is posted on the internet for so many thousands of people to view. Though complete accuracy is so hard to achieve I will always strive for accuracy.....should anyone find incorrect information on any of my memorials please do not hesitate to advise. However, please keep in mind that other contributors have possibly given me incorrect information.

I find it confusing that he is married to Martha "Mattie" Vickers with 2 children and in familysearch it shows him also married to Ardelia Grantham with 3 children. However, on Find A Grave # 67739601 James Cuyler Duren Kirkland is born the same year and shows he is married to Ardelia Grantham with 3 children. It does not give his parents. I think they are definitely two separate individuals but cannot find enough proof for James Cuyler. Anyone have any information that will help.

I am trying to fill a photo request for Beamon. I see he might be related to you?? I walked the cemetery today without success. Have you ever been to Antioch Cemetery where you could give a general location or do you know if he is really buried there. Thanks

How sad for Rhoda and Donnie... I did find Donnie in 2 or 3 census records living with his dad and McGovern grandparents (until Matthew died in 1918, after which he was with just the grandparents, so I'm sure you're right about them raising him)
I never like to leave a family "undone" but it looks like I will have to with Rhoda... would love to know what became of her, if she indeed did die shortly after Donnie's birth or if she could've married and had a family??
thanks so much Barbara.. you are SO helpful and I appreciate it!
|Pam Tanner||RE: Rhoda Lott 90268858|
Thank you for your help, Barbara! Yes, it looks like Matthew and Marie had 2 son's together and I found another record showing a daughter, Lois Gwendoyln McGovern born in 1917, Broxton, GA. She died in 2000, Denton TX.
Can't find ANY other records of Rhoda after the 1900 census. I wish I knew if she ever married or what became of her?!

This week I've been researching Rhoda Lott and her family. It appears that Rhoda Lott and Matthew McGovern were never married (?) but had a child together. Do you know if this is correct or if they ever even lived together?
Matthew 29973223 was actually married to Marie Veasey and they had a few children together. I can only find 2 sources for Rhoda.. one is Findagrave and the other is the 1900 census with her living (single) with her mother, Mary Jane Kirkland Yeomans. Matthew is single in the 1910 census living with his parents and with Donnie Lott, he and Rhoda's then 6 yr old son.
Any info on Rhoda would be appreciated. (also, I find it interested that Donnie went by Rhoda's maiden name, Lott and not Matthew's sir name??)

I am not sure why this posted as it did. It was suggested I photo the graves in this cemetery and added about 100 photos. I added these through photos to transcribe section. If you wish me to delete the entry, I will.
