I live in Newton, Iowa and will be happy to locate and photograph markers in my area.|
I retired from the Air Force August 1 2009 after 26 years of service as a Master Sergeant. I am also a member of the Rapid City, South Dakota Masonic Lodge #25 and the NAJA Shriners.
Photography is my hobby/passion. I will try to fulfill as many requests as possible with quality photos. I enhance all photos to provide the best quality I can.
I trim grass covering markers and sweep off debris to enable a clear view of the marker. I photograph the entire marker as well as a close up of the name inscription. Past experience I have learned people like to see the entire marker and not just a close up of the inscription. I also photograph the back of the marker if there is any inscription on the back.
I NEVER rub chalk or other substances on markers. Chalk will DAMAGE a marker and speed the deterioration of the stone. I use a foil technique that uses aluminum foil to enhance the inscription. This technique does not damage markers and actually works better than chalk.
I can e-mail the full size photos upon request.
I recently became a member of the Jasper County, Iowa Cemetery Commission.
I am interested in my family genealogy surnames of Bickle, Baker, Hoy, Kintz, Plumb, Rinard, Bladwin and several others.
I have entered memorial pages for all

Thank you so much for supplying an excellent photo of this gravestone. It helps me in my research of Civil War veterans and I sure it will be useful to many more. I'm so impressed with the volunteers for findagrave! Gratefully, Suzanne A

First I would like to say Thank You for your service Sir! My family including my husband has a very long history of military service. And Thank you for the care and the statement of proper prep for old stones. I was very pleased to see another know what damage chalk does.
I would like to ask if you could transfer record 39080546 as listed above, this is my Great Great Grandfather on my dad's side of the family.
Have a blessed and peaceful week!

I was mulling over how you prepare each gravesite for the photograph. This makes such a difference. I have decided to pack some supplies in the car to do the same when I visit two cemeteries tomorrow. If you can find Horace Barrett's headstone picture I would like a copy. Can I send you some money for this?

This soldier who served in the Civil War might never have been found without you! Thank you so much for creating this memorial and for the transfer. His descendants will be able to ascend their line because of YOU!
