You left a flower on WOW's memorial and said he was a leaf on your tree. I would love to know how you are related to my gggrandfather.

RE: Semmes, Wilkes Co, GA
Hello Carol,
We are related! I too am descended from Marmaduke Semmes. Ignatius Semmes, MD is my ggg-grandfather. I have discovered the name of Locust Grove as not only the name of the cemetery but of the community in Wilkes County, Georgia. I traveled there last year and a wonderful lady at the Welcome Center across the SC-GA state line who told me that she remembered a notation on the old GA map indicating that the area was called Locust Grove. Additionally, she had the old book with a map of the area. Thank you for getting back to me. It's nice to hear from you.

Kindly, Mary Alice

Thomas & Elizabeth (Semmes) Luckett
Hello Carol,
Last week I as in Taliferro & Wilkes County, GA at the cemetery listed as the 1st Catholic Cemetery in GA. It is located on Randolph Road down the gravel road from the Bernard Darden House. Bernard Darden is buried in this cemetery too. My question is: is this cemetery called the Church of the Purification Cemetery or something else. Do you know the answer to this question. This is the 2nd time I've traveled there because many of those buried there are my ancestors, incl. 5th great-grandfather Dr. Ignatius Semmes, who I understand gave the land for the church ( which burned and is no longer there) and the cemetery. I photographed all the graves there and would like to put them on Find A Grave but I'm unsure of the cemetery name. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
