Bio and Links
Bio Photo I cannot remember not being interested in my family's history.

It is important to preserve our family history and this is a great site for doing just that. One of the ways I preserve our history is adding a new marker in front of the old illegible tombstones and marking unmarked graves.

I am a member of Colonial Dames 17th Century , Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, Henderson County NC Genealogical and Historical Society, and SC State Archives. I am also on the Board for Save the Light to save Morris Island Lighthouse

In 2001 I completed a book on Holston Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The project started with my cousin, Margaret Metcalf Foster and I surveying the cemetery. After seeing how many graves were unmarked in the cemetery and knowing that many of these people were related to me, I decided to find out who they were. Working five years in five funeral homes, I was able to identify and mark 100 graves at Holston Creek Baptist Cemetery. When available, I added parents, spouse, and full birth and death dates to each person buried there in the cemetery book. Later, I entered all the names on Findagrave from this cemetery. As time permits, I am linking the people and adding more information about them. Since this is my project and I am related to many of the people buried here, I am not interested in transferring them. Thanks for understanding.

At the present time, I am doing a book on James and Ann Cole Johnson and their children all the way down to the present. It is the most time consuming project I have ever done. Please get in touch with me if you are a descendant and would like to be included in this book.

PLEASE do not use my photos without my permission.

ANDREW JACKSON RICHMOND
Irdle is Andrew Jackson Richmond's daughter. Andrew (born abt 1855)is the younger brother of my great grandfather Thomas Jefferson Richmond(Born May 8, 1849). Andrew's wife we believe died in childbirth. He can be found in the census living with his daughter Irdle and mother, Nancy J. Box-Richmond in Texas.

Gilliland
I just noticed your visit to Edward Shelby's memorial page. How are you connected? I am Edwards great grandnephew. My mother was Peggy Lou Gilliland-Smith- Raab. My grandfather was Hoyt Gilliland and I am researching our Clan. What a surprise to find Edward buried just five blocks from the home mother was living in when she passed. She started the research and never knew he was here.

Double marker
Betty she has a marker in Gramling Methodist Church Cemetery. So I did the following in her bio section:

She is buried beside her second husband, Harold Franklin Thompson, in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. She also has a marker in Gramling Methodist Church Cemetery, be side her first husband, Nolan Cartee.

Her obituary appears in the Spartanburg Herald Journal Obituary Section on, Nov. 28, 1970, on page 3.

Wife of Harold Thompson and daughter of George F. and Corrie Lee Fisher Cartee. She died Friday, Nov. 27, 1970 at her home following a long illness. Survivors included: two step-daughters, Miss Barbara Ann Thompson and Mrs. Harriette Elizabeth Fleming, two step-sons, Roy Franklin and Lonnie Earl Thompson, three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Fox, Mrs. Frances Hoffman and Mrs. Beuland Penland, three brothers, Woodrow, Raymond and Joel Cartee. She was 53 years of age at her demise.

William Logan Laughter
Nancy's record indicates she was a widow by 1915. There are two men by the name of Wm Logan Laughter living in Rutherford county at about the same time (1900). One Wm Logan Laughter is seen in the census with Nancy and their children in 1900 and the OTHER Wm Logan Laughter is found separately with Addie and their children in 1900. The WRONG Wm Logan Laughter has been linked to Nancy's memorial and I don't have a way of undoing that.
At least - that's the best I've been able to sort this out.
