Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been working on my family history since about 1978. I live in Terre Haute, Indiana, and I currently write the Sunday "Genealogy" column for the Terre Haute Tribune-Star. I am a member of the Clay County Genealogical Society, the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society, and the WVGS Cemetery Committee.

If I have a memorial of your relative that you would like transferred to you, please contact me.

If you have any additions or corrections to make to one of my memorials, please click on the "edit" button of the memorial.

About my photographs. If you would like a copy of any cemetery marker that I have photographed, simply ask, and I will send you a copy. You may use the copy for yourself and share with immediate family members. I will not give permission for anyone to use any of the photos I own to add to, where it will become part of a pay-per-view database and will be open to theft by anyone who uses that site. The personal photos of my family and pets that I own are not to be duplicated without my permission. These are from family photo albums and are not to be placed in family trees that end up on Ancestry. If you are related, please contact me. I have no problem sharing. Please respect my choice not to have photos that I take for free, as a volunteer, with the intention of helping others, placed on a for-profit web site. Thanks.

If you like animals, visit my pet cemetery. Some kind individuals have sponsored the memorials of my cats. Thanks again to them.

RE: Barney Lawson
Thank you. His parents are in Croys Creek cemetery. I checked the 1916 death certificate for Mary which indicated her father was John Rice. Thank you for the link.

RE: Elizabeth Paul Rigler
Tamie, thanks for the heads up for the incorrect death year for Elizabeth Paul Rigler - it is 1919. Added the death notice to the memorial:

Ken Powell

Thelma Harden Jones
I believe Thelma Harden Jones,69480065, that you manage is the same person as Thelma P. Jones,51084929, created by the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society Cemetery Committee. On Find A Grave they have posted a photo of her grave stone in Restlawn Cemetery. Not sure what the procedure is to merge them. She is the wife of James P. Jones, also buried in Restlawn.

Esther Jones McDevitt
My husband is the grandson of Esther Jones McDevitt. She died well before he was born while attending the funeral of her mom, Maria Broderick Jones in Indiana. She was buried in Restlawn but there is no marker. There is a Jones Family plot where her brother, James Jones, his wife, Thelma, and Esther's parents, Joseph and Maria Jones, are buried and it is assumed and maybe recorded that she is buried in one of the other plots. My questions: 1. Who do I contact for information? I cannot find a phone number for Restlawn Cemetery. Is there one? My sister-in-law had explored getting a grave marker for Esther's grave. That was put on hold for a while. In fact, Jason Moon of the Brazil Times wrote an article about that a couple of years ago. We would like to consider getting a grave marker again. 2. Is there a way to determine that there is someone buried in a plot? Several of the plots are vacant, I think. It would be preferred to at least place the gravestone above the correct plot as best we can determine. My email is Looking forward to hearing from you. Gretchen McDevitt

Tamie, Do you have anymore information about this Civil War veteran? With the help of Mike Winn (owner of Summit Lawn Cemetery), we're trying to find his plot or headstone. No luck! Do you have anything else?

Craig Genealogy
I forgot to mention that most of my Craig seem to have lived in Indiana - mostly in Clay county. How are you connected to Craigs - if you are that is.

Craig Genealogy
My name is Jim Craig and I have been interested in my ancestors which means that I am searching both my fathers side (craig) and my mothers side(fry) of the family. My question is about the Craig side. More specifically Elleanor Craig that probably marries Isaac N. Anderson about 1891 in Clay county, Indiana. my problem is I can't seem to find any other information about either of them. Can you point me in the right direction?I know she is the daughter or Robert L Craig and on his side I have him and his parents on the 1880 Federal census for Indiana

RE: Charles K. Hoback
Thanks for the reply and a big thank you for posting this memorial in the first place. I was able to view the obituary by using another computer. Must be something to do with my browser. Anyway that information in the obituary provided the link my family has been looking for. Charles K. is my great great grandfather. Now I need to find something to prove who HIS father was. Anyway thanks so much!
