I am a native of San Joaquin County, California, the son of Verne W Hoffman Jr., who researched his genealogy lines extensively during the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Most of these lines came through the states of Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas with surnames of Hoffman, Harpold, Tarvin, Croy, Webster, Kerr, Jack, Foster, Christian, Givens, and Hargrave. Much of my father's research and my continuing research can be viewed on the "Mokelumne Farms" tree on Ancestry.com.|
I currently live in Georgia.

Roger: Going through my messages, I see that you sent me an inquiry back last fall which I never answered. I'm so sorry... first I was on a cruise, and later in the fall I was visiting my daughter in another state for several weeks. So to try to answer your question about where I got the photo I posted. This is ridiculous, but I can't figure out where I got it! I'm pretty sure I didn't take it because I don't remember going to that cemetery, or I should say, if I have, I don't remember which one it is. However, I can't see where else I got it, either! I don't seem to have it on his page on my ancestry.com tree, so evidently I didn't get it from a connection on ancestry. I think I have actually been to most of the cemeteries in Hopkins County over the years but don't know which one this is. Sometime when I go back, I am going to re-visit them all and put them on a map with a description. The Givens were relatives by marriage... John T's great-granddaughter married into the Frazer family, which was my mother's family... so John T's descendents are cousins of mine. Anne

You are most welcome. It was my pleasure. I created memorials for all of them. Please let me know if you would like me to transfer management.

My great-grandfather served for California for the Spanish American War, not World War I. Can you please correct this on his memorial page?
He may not have served since his wife, Alina died and he had small children to attend to, but he did serve in the Sp/American war.

I mistakenly put Alina as the mother to "Billy"
, he was not. Please link him to Virginia Soares Hoffman-Turpen who is buried at the Modesto cemetery. My mistake, sorry. I don't have the memorial number handy right now. Billy was a half brother to the girls, Frances, Imogene and Bernice.

I am the grandaughter of Frances I. Hoffman of Modesto, California. I found "Billy" Hoffman the half brother to my grandmother, buried in Carpenteria. Looks like you have a pending edit. Can you link him to his parents, William F. 57568174 and 57568185 - Alina Grant? He married a woman named Perry, but I wonder if she re-married. I don't see an entry for her in that cemetery.
Bernice Hoffman is still alive last I heard. She is 96 or 97 now living in Sacramento in assisted care.

Do you have any knowledge that one the children of James and Elizabeth was a Matthew, born in 1827, in Kentucky. Matthew is shown in the 1850 Texas census and subsequent census as having been born in KY. I have researched and can find no link, but a relative had an unsourced document that says he was. Perhaps you have information. Thanks. Debbie Neubauer (2nd great grandfather, Matthew Givens)

Thank you so much for the photo and other information about John Boyle's grave. I am very happy to have this and appreciate your time and effort very much. Warm regards, Maria Dering, New York, NY.

More than welcome. Located two children also buried in the plot and created memorials for them.
