Bio and Links
Bio Photo Every life matters. As an author and researcher, I've been the beneficiary of the knowledge and assistance of thousands of historians and genealogists. I try never to miss an opportunity to pay these favors forward.

You are welcome to share my photos among family members. Photo credit is appreciated but not required.

Accuracy is important to me. If you spot errors, please let me know *respectfully.* If you send me additional information to add to memorials, INCLUDE YOUR SOURCE/DOCUMENTATION. If you submit edits without documentation, expect that I will take time to check your info, and that may slow processing considerably. I welcome edits but am only able to process them as my work and family obligations allow. Thanks for understanding.

A word about bios: I believe the word "biography" means the story of a life, not just the story of the moment of someone's death. I wouldn't want myself or my loved ones defined by that, so I believe it is a matter of respect that if memorials include information about a person's cause of death, they also include information about the much bigger story of their life. As such, I choose not to include information about deaths only, particularly when they are salacious, such as accidents, suicides, fires, executions, murders, etc. I have made occasional exceptions but for the most part, I follow Find a Grave guidelines: “The bio should not look like a case file. Graphic bios are not acceptable.”

I also decline to post information from copyrighted sources (most books and some obituary sources) but can usually post directions to your source.

I'm happy to refer you to other Oregon resources as well.

Hello Ellen,
There must be some kind of mixup? David and Katherine only had two sons, John and Henry, 1868 and 1879 respectively.
The two sons arrived with them at New York in 1887. I think John is at Rose City as well, died in 1915, same as his mother? Thanks.

My apologies
I am sorry Ellen, I have no idea how I managed to botch the names, A. J. Friauf and R. H. Friauf? I don't think Find a Grave has autocorrect? Goodness me.

I found this brief notice in the Oregonian and thought you might like to have it?

The Oregonian April 13, 1915
Friauf — In this city, April 12th at the family residence, 406 Graham avenue, Katherine Friauf, aged 64 years, beloved wife of Carl Friauf, and mother of Mrs. A. Krieger, Mrs. J.J. Murray, A.J. Friar, R.H. Friar, and Miss L. Friauf, of Portland. Notice of funeral hereafter.

RE: Lewis Watts
Yes it did. But that allowed me to trace them backwards and in some cases forwards and follow the family.
Actually I prefer obits with married names as it makes it a lot easier, so it was a real find for me.
Thanks again!
I am retiring soon and if I can find an excuse for a day trip to VT I will try and get those photos you are looking for up there. Any idea of the grave locations?

Lewis Watts
Thank you very much for the obit and grave photo. The obit in particular was very helpful. Lewis was the 1/2 brother of my Gr.Gr. Grandmother. Family legend was that after the death of her mother (looks to have been related to her birth) the father left to go out west from Maine. I had gotten stuck at Lewis but the obit gave me all sorts of names and information.
Have a great 2016
