Bio Photo My name is Elana Kahn, and I live in Boston, MA. I'm married to a wonderful man and have three adorable kids (boy/girl twins who are 4, a 2-year-old girl, and I'm pregnant with another little girl). I'm currently in nursing school and hope to eventually become a Certified Nurse Midwife, and in the mean time I'm a birth doula.

My mom was always the genealogist in the family, so she's the one I always turn to for questions, but now I'm the keeper of the electronic records (on Geni). Unfortunately I do not live near where my relatives are buried, so I either have to travel or have volunteers take photos. Most of my family is buried either in Rochester, NY or in and around New York City. I've been using my research skills to try and find where many of my family members are buried and so far have been somewhat successful. I still have about 50 people to locate, though.

Here are the last names that particularly interest me and the most likely place for their burial:

Hi Elana,

I was just doing a biography for Edward Livermore Burlingame #110059397 when I realized that you created the memorial back when you did the photos I requested for his parents and it wasn't my memorial.

Would you mind transferring him to me? He's my first cousin.

If you prefer to keep him then I will send you some biographical material for him.

It has been a long time since I made that photo request (May 05, 2013).

Either way, Happy Holidays.

Thomas Davenport
Elana, Thank you for creating the memorial for Thomas Davenport (1617-1685). You also posted a picture of the memorial stone located in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA, Plot: Spruce Ave, Lot 1359. Do you, by chance, have a transcription of the memorial stone? I can read Davenport and it looks like the chronology goes from bottom to top, but I really cannot decipher the inscription. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Linne

Kahn Israel & Rachael Britton Road
Hi Elana,
A while back you were kind enough to take pictures of my Great Grand Parents Graves in the Britton Road Cemetery in Rochester. I can not thank you enough for that!!!! I am going to be passing through Rochester in August and plan on paying my respects to my Great Grand Parents. I wanted to know if you still have the info on exactly where they are buried in the cemetery (Section, Row, Grave #)? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again,
Sabrina (Kahn) Uchetel

Would you have any idea how close Hugh Parks is buried to the Parks with no name who died in 1865??? I noticed the numbers used to record the graves are very close together. I am looking for a Hugh Parks who we show died in August 1862, and his wife Nancy died in July 1865. We may be off with the months.

L Cummings
Cummings family
Hi Elana, your name is on a photo of the cemetery gates of Hope something in Rochester, NY one of the people you list is Allen J birth date.
died 1882?
Anyway, I am looking for the parents of my Allen Cummings...there are only about 2 or 3 Allen Cummings in the NY/PA area. I have my GGGgrandfather but no parents for him or siblings. Any cummings born in the late 1700's or just around 1800 could be related to I saw that you had Amos...born 1797? in Mass.. but then Allen in Rochester NY.
So do you know anything else about that Allen? Or my Allen for that matter...see my profile, or search for Allen Cummings in the Stull cemetery in Eldred, McKean Co. PA
Thank you, Lindy J. Cummings

in reference to the message you left another contributor:

RE: Henry Francis Poor # 35694315
The picture was taken at Mt Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA (where the rest of his family is buried), but I believe he's buried in Hawaii. I just looked, and there's a duplicate record for him in O'ahu Cemetery. Unfortunately I can't read the stone much better than you would be able to because it's so worn away. If I were to guess I would say it says:

"Died Honolulu, HI
Sep. 16, 1859 Aged 27"

Have you tried using onion paper to read the stone? you can take a sheet of onion paper (tracing paper works, but it might be too thick to get the job done good), but you place a sheet of onion paper over the marking on the stone, then use a crayon OR Chalk & rub it Lightly across the paper until you start to see words darken in the color you are creating, Then you can ad more pressure to the areas where there appears to be more engravings... This is an excellent way to trace carvings of graves that are too worn to read... Hope this helps...
