I have been doing family history research since completing a cub scout merit badge over 30 years ago. As a teen, I began walking and cycling through area cemeteries, noting familiar surnames and wondering if they were related. In high school, I helped a friend's grandmother work on her family history, as she had trouble reading what she had typed. This was "old school" genealogy - collecting and trading books, writing letters to genealogy societies, and contacting various relatives by telephone and mail. Times have changed!

I am also a licensed Amateur Radio operator. Licensed as KA9HTW in 1980 (Novice), upgrading to Advanced class in the spring of 1981. Later upgraded to Extra class, changing my call to WQ9T. I work as a journeyman electrician, and am a member of IBEW local 34, Peoria, for over 25 years. Former member UFCW. I have been married for over 22 years, with two children.

Philip Gildersleeve
I transferred him into your care. I have not had any luck in converting to famous any of my memorials except one. I am still trying to work on getting Mr Stanley of Craftsman tools an Stanley Works designated as famous.
Good tidings if you can do it for Mr Gildersleeve.

I just wanted to thank you for adding my four times great grandparents and their grandson to the Greenbush Cemetery List in Warren County, Illinois.

I visited the cemetery a few weeks ago and could not find any remnant of their tombstones, but I am very happy that they are on the cemetery list.

Did you once see the tombstones or did you list them from the cemetery list?

Thanks again.

Mervin Norville @ Oquawka
Richard,
Thank you for the info on Mervin.
I linked him to his mother the old fashion way, so you won't get a notice from Find A Grave.
His father Earl did indeed die in Oquawka.
I looked at his death record and created a memorial for him in Roseville and did all the linking I could do on him.
Thanks again,
Ron

I will email you a page from the Oakland Cemetery Record book, complied by the local genealogical society. It has transcriptions of the McCleary tombstone I will post today. They are hard to read now.

Martha Sutton Richards
Martha Richards was my great grandmother. I have a copy of her death certificate from Jefferson County, Illinois and it shows her date of death as March 31, 1930, not 1939. She was buried in Bruce Cemetery April 1, 1930. If you could correct that I would appreciate it. Thanks.

RE: Onge photos - Thank you!
You're welcome! Yes, my mom's side of the family changed it from Johnson to Johnsen to seem more Scandinavian...so we have a mixture of the two in my family line. Good luck on your search!

James Lee
Richard are you related to James Lee married first to Margaret and then to Jane? If so I would like to transfer these memorials to you. I am dealing with some serious health issues and don't want to leave this to be picked up by a less thorough researcher. I was sort of holding them for Judith but enough time has passed since I told her I wanted to transfer them. I think she might have health issues as well. If you are interested if you would use the edit function to request I will get them to you. Would like to do this as soon as possible. Thanks, Marji
