West Virginia
I see you are from West Virginia. I am wondering if there might be any Steeles in your family from that area. My family was from southwestern Pennsylvania and I often wonder if any of them went to West Virginia. Feel free to email me at if you know of any. Thank you.

George & Lovie Murphy
Hi Alan, I've transferred them as you requested. You may use my photo however you wish. I wanted to let you know, in case you thought it looked a little odd, that the stone had rolled off its base and was resting against it. You can see the base at the bottom of the picture. Fortunately, the writing was visible!

Kress message
Hi KAL, I looked up Henry Kress' WV birth record gives Sept 17 1864 which was my original date on his memorial. Yes it agrees with stone but not with DC. I've now explained the discrepancy on his memorial. Father's name George could be middle name perhaps? I hadn't seen the headstone before but have changed death year to 1930.

RE: Benjamin Sheppard Harrison
Good Morning to you. Thanks for getting back to me. Actually, my great grandfather is Ben S's younger brother - James Richmond Harrison.

I have my fingers crossed you will be able to discover some solid information on your trip.

If headstone is incorrect, I am sure it would not be the first time that happened since remaining family members are those supplying the facts. Gosh, look how often we have to change our own records, and we have the benefit of the internet.

Would love to know the results of your findings. Cheers, Joy

Benjamin Sheppard Harrison
Found your memorial page for Benjamin Sheppard Harrison, with parents noted as Henry D. Harrison and Zarah Ann Thigpen Harrison.

Henry D & Zarah are my gr-gr grandparents, and are from Monroe County, GA. Benjamin shows up as a child of their on the 1850 & 1860 census, but not 1870.

Understanding it is not uncommon to join a regiment in another state, I have a question about BS Harrison's noted CSA history.

Here is where I found the Tennessee Muster Rolls and Rosters:

The only mention of a 32nd makes no mention of BS Harrison.

On the other hand, there is a GA Co. H, 32nd regiment that does mention a Benjamin S. Harrison, which I found here:

Very curious because Benjamin's Grave marker certainly says TN. Can you shed any light on this?

Thanks, Joy Harrison Canova
