I started looking for my family after stumbling on this site. I was so EXCITED to find MY GGGGG Grands, and the cemeteries have done a great job of preservation. I love photography and wandering through old cemeteries, some of the monuments are awe inspiring. I was also struck and saddened by the crumbling faded stones, especially the ones I remembered playing among during my childhood. It is so sad that someone will look for a relative and not be able to see the stone any longer. Therefor I feel that we all have an obligation to photograph and try to save these memories. |
How do I get a relative's memorial transferred to me?
Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations.
Explain your relationship in the request! Any non-direct relatives (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) are not required to be transferred.
Please note that it is not appropriate to request a transfer and then, after receiving the transfer, delete that page and substitute it with a new memorial that you have created.
Get out and photograph memorials while they are still readable. This site is primarily for GRAVE photos not genealogy, preserve those memories that are quickly fading.

The memorial was originally in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA and that was where the photo was taken. I have removed it.

Cathy, I took the grave photo but not the photo you mention (now third one). I no longer live near the cemetery to check about what you mentioned.I dont see a way to delete the photo either when logged in.

I agree. However.. What I *THINK* he has done, is taken a photo of the soldiers section of Cold Harbor National Cemetery and placed that on his memorial at Laurens City Cemetery.
Technically, the Laurens City memorial should be a Cenotaph if that's the case. But, just looking at the stone and memorial, I see no indication that he was buried in a mass grave in Cold Harbor.
Honestly, when I first looked at the photo, I thought that was the Christmas lights/tree they do right outside the cemetery across from the KFC every year.
I'm guessing you've seen lots of the edits i've submitted there. I've been walking the cemetery and GPS tagging every grave and photographing all that I can.. Found a fair number that weren't documented on Find A Grave at all, and a good number that had issues (be it spelling, dates, etc).. I should finish it up next weekend.
Assuming that a memorial 'owner' is able to remove photos.. I'd contact whoever the admin of the other copy is and ask them to remove that photo.

Do you know if William H. Hughes buried in Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery is the son of Luther Berry Hughes?

I did not see your Find A Grave Memorial until after I made a headstone photo request on Find A Grave after visiting Memorial # 157243254 by Memory Maker. Thanks for posting the photo on your Memorial # 107166406. I did not know how to take my request back after finding yours. fkhargett

Greetings. I am doing some research on my wife's family. William Beaty Starnes is her great grandfather, Minter Bobo Starnes her grandfather, Virginia Starnes her mother. I wonder if you have any information to share relating to William, Mary Bagwell, Mary Puckett, or Mary's father John Puckett. Thanks. email@example.com
