I love genealogy and old cemeteries! I am currently working on restoring an old, "abandoned" cemetery near Pleasant Hill in Pike county, Illinois with my father, Lonnie Robinson, and my good friend, Chris Harris. It is a shame to see the final resting places of the pioneers to this area covered in brush, briars and completely neglected. I need volunteers to help keep these cemeteries maintained!!! |
Many of the oldest gravestones have toppled or broken and I would like to get them standing proudly again. I'm learning the PROPER way through the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency cemetery preservation workshops. It's a lot of work, but it's definitely worth it.
I welcome any corrections, links, etc. to my memorials and I'm always willing to transfer memorials that aren't my kinfolk to an actual relative. I'm sure I've made many mistakes and I won't be offended if you point them out......:-)
If you appreciate seeing your ancestor's burial location, show your support by donating to that cemetery's maintenance fund. There are a few good folks who volunteer to keep the many old cemeteries in good shape by mowing, trimming trees, clearing brush, etc. and a donation toward their costs is a great way to show your support and appreciation! Without them, all the old cemeteries would disappear......(if you don't know where to send donations, please message me and I will find out for you)

|Tonia||RE: Photo Request for Nancy Kelly Blair|
No problem, not a wild goose chase at all. In this heat, I'm checking grave locations on paper rather than going out to take photos (waiting for cooler weather). So it was, literally, "no sweat." I'm glad you were able to locate her grave in the Old Barry Cemetery.

Thank you so much for taking the time to find and snap a pic of our Helen.
You truly are a "Genealogy Angel"
|Tonia||Photo Request for Nancy Kelly Blair|
Hi there. I had hoped to be able to take a photo of Nancy Kelly Blair's headstone, per your request, at Park Lawn in Barry. I looked through the Park Lawn records and don't find any record of her burial in May 1952. I looked through the records for 1951 through 1953 and don't find her. Can you confirm the date of death or confirm she is buried at Park Lawn? Thanks. I am in town for the month and am photographing my own ancestors' resting places while I am here.

Monroe died in 1846 ,and Hanna Shultz died in 1844. I have not found Hanna's stone yet or the top half of Monroe's stone. Hanna was on the 1902 reading.

Kathy, you already gave me the transcript (bless you). It is in my family tree, but needs to be added to the Findagrave memorial.
Please excuse my unnecessary message to you.

Kathy, this might be a impossible task for you since you have taken so many Findagrave photos. I am wondering if you can provide a transcript for the gravestone. There is a lot of writing on the gravestone, and it is old so I can't read all of it.
Thanks for your help,

Thank you for the nice clear photo of this headstone. I am glad it has been captured before it meets the fate of so many of these old stones. The cemetery doesn't appear to be very well kept, I am delighted to note that her marker is still standing.

Had some goofy errors on that one. Thanks for catching them!
I assume you will be putting Alfred Kessinger and his wife, Dollie Carter, on Find A Grave since I can see from your picture that they share a stone with Harold. Would you please give me a heads up when you do that so I can link him to them? They were his parents.
Always great to hear from you. Thanks for all you do!
