Bio and Links
Bio Photo If you know of any one memorialized here who served aboard the USS Melvin DD-680 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, please let me know.

I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.

If you should find one of your submissions connects as a child to any of the memorials I have posted, please link the child to his or her parents.

If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there.

I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 20 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Current projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island, and Shelburne, Franklin Co, Mass cemeteries. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.

There are so many "orphan" memorials here on Find-A-Grave, many of which have been posted en masse and then forgotten. So many need identification and linking so we know who they were! I believe that posting a memorial carries with it a duty and responsibility to manage that memorial properly, taking the time to research, identify, and link the memorial properly, along with a willingness to work with others who may also have an interest in that memorial. The vast majority of Find-A-Grave contributors are wonderful collaborators. But, if you add thousands of memorials, be prepared to manage and care for them, and at least have the common courtesy to respond to update/correction requests.

A recent opportunity to help another contributor discover his missing roots was incredibly rewarding, and it helps me remember that every single memorial or monument posted here is sometimes all that remains of a history -- no, a story -- of an individual person who helped make us what we are today.

Where are we related.
I think you should put him in the Springfield cemetery and ask for a picture. I am sure he is there Inform the picture that this will be a search and if no picture ask for a picture of a memorialless plot that can be posted as a memorial.

Dr Vienna Amelia Harvey Washburn
Do you have any record of the child's name, whose tiny marker, sits to the right of his/her mother Dr Vienna Amelia Harvey Washburn's grave? It may have just had two letters. Can't recall.
Thanks again for all your help. It is so very important to get these records correctly noted.

Hello Kevin, Thanks so much for info on this memorial. I have made changes and appreciate your contacting me. Bet it is getting warm down in Florida but you are far enough north that perhaps its not too bad. Thanks again. Cyndy
