As a local historian, I am interested in making Durham and Dayton (Butte County) California records available to other researchers.|
Please use the NEW Edit System when possible for making any name or date changes to a memorial.
The records I'm most interested in making available are those that cannot always be accessed by others living out of the area. I hope that those to whom I send requests for updates will be so kind as to link and augment their memorials.
My continued interest will be local Butte County history, with an emphasis on military records and biographies. Please email me with your comments.
On July 7, 2013, I was asked to manage all the Durham Cemetery memorials created by another researcher who moved out of state, and, on October 15, 2013 I was asked to take over almost 14,000 additional memorials-from Chico Cemetery-to work on. I'm doing my best, and look forward to more information and/or updates and corrections.
In RE: any photos I have posted, please feel free to use them for any genealogy purposes. If I were going to copyright a photo, it would not be of a tombstone or cemetery - and, those members of the family who are deceased deserved to have their images remembered.

|Eliza||RE: Ivy Marshall, Chico Cemetery|
Thanks for the responses. I sent you a follow-up message about the 'ss' thing after it dawned on me what it meant, but maybe you didn't get that message. As far as Ivy's burial date, I am aware of what the cemetery record says. The cemetery record is simply erroneous. The record has her name and the section/plot/space correct, but the burial date is unquestionably wrong. Ivy was not buried 51 years after she died. My parents were both there when Ivy was buried in 1943.

Erwin Willard Baxter, dob Aug 2, 1898 [sic, 1899]
The date on the memorial has been updated to reflect 1898 and the sic, 1899 has been removed.
I have seen many headstones where they round to the nearest year.

I have been tracking James Bedwell. You have a James Bedwell listed in Chico Cemetery, Butte County, California as son of William & Jane. Could this actually be the father of William. I have found William in the 1870, 1880 & 1900 Census with no mention of a son James. William's mother appears to have been buried in Llano cemetery in Texas without her husband. I'm wondering if James went to California with his son and is the one listed in Chico Cemetery. Can you help me verify if James in Chico cemetery is William's son or father. His father would have been abt. 83.
