|I have added these memorials, mostly from the historic cemeteries of Charleston to memorialize all the individuals who have contributed to Charleston's past. |
If I don't respond to a request for transfer it means I prefer to retain the memorial.
In the event a photo of a headstone is not included, it generally means that the memorial information was taken from a cemetery transcription or death record. One of those who did the transcription was Elizabeth C. Curtis. Without her efforts cemeteries such as Trinity United Methodist and Old Third Central Presbyterian Cemetery records would not be included or available since neither of the above church exists today, including the cemetery and headstones. I just found out yesterday January 21, 2010 that internments of Old Third Central Presbyterian Church Cemetery have been moved to Riverview Memorial in Charleston. There are others who did transcriptions, but I am not aware who they are. If someone knows, I would be glad to acknowledge them in this profile.
Some of the headstones at the Circular Church were impossible to read, however the church had previously documented many of the graves sites by plot #'s. In those cases where I could not read the headstone I used the information from the church records found at the Charleston library to identify the headstones. I did list the plots #'s on the majority of the memorials.
A special thanks to the work of Clare Jervey published in 1906 with the transcription of St. Michael's. Her transcription allowed me to include much that was unreadable.

John - Since we are not sure where his wife, Mary (Jones) Keating Broughton, is buried, we can't add that. I was thinking that you had Mary Hannah (Broughton) Boswick as his wife ===I just read it wrong! You [or either Mr. Boswick] give Mary Hannah as a daughter. Maybe he will change that because if she was a Broughton, she belonged to someone else. Here is Abstract of will of the son of this Alexander Broughton dated 1789:
WAB 4:409 JOHN BROUGHTON, St. John's Parish, Berkeley Co., Gent.
Mother: MARY Broughton
Sisters: CHARLOTTE Broughton; MARY Motte
Nephew: Alexander Broughton Motte ...
D:19 Aug 1789. P: 1 Mar 1799
[I did send Mr. Boswick a note so I guessing that there is nothing that you can do.]
Sorry - I meant to add that the records I have for the daughter Mary Broughton are:
1778 SCHM 11:164 "Records Kept by Co. Isaac Hayne'
p. 164 Cl. Isaac Motte C Town m. Mary Broughton Spinster St. John's 18 Dec 1777
footnote: from SC Amer General Gazette 1 Jan 1778
Col. Isaac Motte, of the 2nd regiment, to Miss Mary Broughton, d/o deceased Alexander Broughton, Esq.
This is not my family and I could be wrong but Alexander says in his will that his wife MARY was first married to Maurice Keating and he names his brother-in-law John Jones. It is my belief that Mary Broughton was Mary Jones, d/o Samuel Jones and Mary Odingsell. I do not know where she was buried.

This seems to be the same person as Thomas O. Barnwell (#26892976). Maybe you can ask for a merger of the two memorials?

|Susan Lloyd Eidson Barclay||Request a transfer of Memorials|
Reference Memorials # 75062901 Robert Ansel Eidson and #75062922 Cecil Ruth King.
Robert Ansel Eidson and his wife Cecil Ruth King Eidson are my parents.
I would like to request a transfer of their memorials on Find A Grave from your name to my name: Susan Eidson Barclay.
Thank you for all the work you do for Find A Grave. If you do not wish to transfer my parents to me I will certainly understand.

Hey Saratoga I just had a couple of questions regarding Amelia~is there an E on the name Green on her headstone and are you sure about the birth date~21 July 1849. For MA Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988 have an Amelia Green, child of Daniel and Catherine Green born 2 Jan 1849 in Boston.

It appears Find A Grave merged the two memorials. You might want to add another one for her at Magnolia and have yours marked as a cenotaph and remove the Magnolia grave photo you took from the Old Town memorial. If you do create another, just wanted to let you know the dates on the Magnolia marker are a little different from the Old Town one.
Well, that was interesting...
