Bio Photo For the last 3 years I have tried to add headstones of interments from the Clare/Mount Pleasant, MI area cemeteries. I am now working my way through the on-line Clare newspaper archives for obituaries. I began with the year 1923 and am working my way into history with the current year being 1885. This has been an interesting experience because the little Clare, MI paper included obits from nation wide. I was told the reason was "back then, newspapers were purchased pre-printed with empty spaces for local news." I really haven't researched the history of newspapers. Just an interesting thought.

RE: Frank Richard Gay
This is my great grandfather. His son, Henry Newell Gay, is my grandfather and he is the one who signed Frank's death certificate. The obituary is as follows: Frank R. Gay was born February 2, 1849, and departed this life April 17, 1917. The funeral was held at the Sacred Heart church and interment in the Catholic cemetery. He leaves five sons and four daughters, a son having died in infancy. The children are: Susie in Los Angeles; Estella in Farwell; Katie and Martha at home; Henry, in Midland; John, Frank and Willie at home, and Harry in the U. S. Marine Corps in Port au Prince, Haiti. He has 16 grand children. Those from out the city who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gay and two children from Midland. I do believe that Frank was married before Adeline to Susanna McClure. There is an 1880 census indicating that and a marriage record in family search. I think that Estella, Frank's oldest daughter, was born during this marriage. Adeline, his second wife, was not catholic and is buried in Riverside cemetery.
