RE: Mary E. (Bobbi) Judge Slattery
Beth - Thank you for replying to my message.I understand about the email issue.
When I thought about the name Marion Girard it sounded very familiar to me and I know I heard it during my childhood and I even think she was involved in one of my relatives wedding, possibly as a Maid of Honor. I recall that her name may have been brought up when looking at old photos with my Mom. I would always ask who people I did not recognize where that is one of the places I heard the name Marion Girard.
My GGrandparents were Catherine Judge & Michael Farrell. Catherine was the oldest child of Thomas Judge Sr. & Ann Nolan Judge. One of Catherine & Michael Farrell's 8 children was my Grandmother, Ann Farrell, who married Charles Macy Bussey, They had 4 children, one of whom was my Mother, Dorothy Ann Bussey. My Middle name is Catherine after my GGrandmother Catherine Judge Farrell. My Mom married Richard P. Doody of Troy in 1944. I am one of 6 siblings all born in Troy.

My Mom always told us stories about all the wonderful times she & her older sister Mary had visiting & living off & on with their Great Aunts & Uncle at the Judge Mansion. Sadly I do not have any photos of these family members who were so important in my Mom's life. The Judges & the Farrells (Catherine's family) would often vacation at Lake Placid. That is where my Mom developed a childhood dream to become an Olympic figure skater. I believe the Judges belonged to a Country Club at Lake Placid. It was more of a resort where they would stay for lengthy vacations. My Mom was taken there to vacation many times while she was growing up. She & her siblings were treated extremely well by the Judges, but particularly by the Judges that never married & had children of their own. The names I remember the most were Annie, Bertie or Birdie (nick-name for Teresa?) and Uncle Joe.
I am pretty sure your Grandmother Marion would have been a cousin to my Grandmother Ann Farrell Bussey. That would make us 3rd cousins.
Shortly before my family moved to Oregon in 1968. My Mom & I went to the Judge Mansion because the executor of the estate invited her to go to the mansion & see if there were any possessions she would like to have before the house was emptied. I remember the attic was filled with those huge steamer trunks with all the stickers from decades of travels, several of those Victorian aviaries that were the size of a small room today. I was told that the Judges always keep parakeets. My Mom opened a truck and we both screamed because it was filled with fur coats and in the dim light my
mom didn't know what she had touched. Since we were moving in a couple of days we didn't have much time my Mom let me pick one item and that was a beautiful little dressing vanity that I still have not gotten around to restoring. I believe this a couple of years after Annie died and Joe was living in a nursing home of some type. I remember when he died around 1973.
After the mansion was turned into a B&B, my Aunt Mary and her daughters went to Troy & stayed there. They took photos of the interior & my Mom was shocked to see that the beautiful walls & most of the hand carved woodwork that Thomas Judge crafted himself was gone and walls replaced with sheetrock. It looked like the interior had been gutted and rebuilt like a ranch house. MY Aunt said it was nothing like the house she& my Mom had lived in part time as girls.
I recently found a census that had a complete list of Thomas & Ann Judges children. I was surprised to learn that they had 2 babies that died at about a year old. I also did not know that one of the children was a priest in Troy at Scared Heart Church. Rev. Thomas Judge. There was a large obituarty about how he became ill & had been sent to the Bahamas to recover, but suddenly died in his early 50s. His body was sent back to Troy and the funeral mass was held at the church in his Father's neighborhood because Thomas wanted to pay tribute to his late Father. I believe Thomas Sr. had built that church. The date of the obit. was Jan. 1922 which is also the year my Mom was born.
That is about the extent of what I know of the Judges. Do you have any additional information you could share. I know Thomas Judge & his wife Ann Nolan were both born in Ireland, but I do not know their parents names or what Counties they came from. They had a total of 9 children, 7 of whom lived to adulthood. The one census showed that Ann's Mother, Margaret Nolan also came from Ireland as a widow and lived with the Thomas Judges until she died in Troy at the age of 89. I was able to finally locate a census with all the siblings names and have found photos of most of the grave markers from that era. That was how I happened upon your comment Find a Grave.
If you have any additional information or photos to you would be willing to share, I will have to think of a safe way to exchange Perhaps I can add a new email address specifically for that purpose and delete it when finished. I will try to find that wedding photo I believe your Grandmother is in. I think it was taken at my Great Uncle Johnnie Farrell's wedding. He was the youngest son of Catherine Judge & Michael Farrell. I have found quite a few families with the Name of Judge in the Albany area and wondered if there are any that could be related to our Judges?
I am so glad to have heard from you and you have helped me find some relatives I have been searching for. Any additional info. you might have is always welcome.
Ellen

Mary E. (Bobbi) Judge Slattery
I came across your bio for your Aunt Bess. She sounds like a wonderful person & has a very interesting background. I am researching my Mother's Maternal side of the family the Thomas Judges' of Lansingburgh. I was born in Troy in 1957 at St. Mary's Hospital & my many of my ancestors have lived in Troy since 1800. and my GGandmother was Catherine Judge Farrell. I believe my GGrandmother is the sister of your GGandmother Mary E. Judge Slattery. She was mentioned in the obituary of one of her brothers Rev. Thomas Judge. She was listed as Mrs. J.J. Slattery. I have also found newpaper notices that list the address as being on 5th Ave. in Troy.
It would be great if you could contact me so I can confirm that we have this relative in common and so I can verify that I have accurately traced Mary as being a sibling of my GGrandmother Catherine Judge Farrell.
I hope to hear from you and see if we are possibly distant cousins.

Shaw
You'll be happy to know they did not all die together. Someone had added the 1880 census in with the Death records. So they are all dead of course but didn't die all at once. Hopefully they all lived happy healthy old age lives. *smile*

Shaw family
You were asking about the Shaw family in the Old COunty Hospital in Fairfield,CA.
I will see if I can find any info. But I believe since their father was the head of the hospital, he might have brought home an epidemic?
If I do find out, I'll let you know.

RE: clara and George Amo
I wish findagrave would eliminate this way of communicttion. You have to cut and paste the original message, and I get no reference to the memorial #'s. I put a great deal of info on here and then find I have to spend extra time trying to figure out who the person is referring to. Please always use the edit button on the memorial. If you will resend your message this way, I will respond. Could not figure out who you were referring to. Thanks Mary

Florence Amelia Cooke auto accident
per your request -- following is a copy of the news article on this early auto accident in which I lost my grandaunt.

TROY AUTO KILLED HER.

Merchant There Said to Own Motor Which Hit Flora Cooke.

Alexander Karlin, a lawyer, of 320 Broadway, who has been investigating the killing of Miss Flora Cooke of 46 East Easter Boulevard last Monday, declared yesterday that he had learned that the owner of the car is a merchant, now living in Troy. THe merchant, it is alleged, bought the car in September, 1907, from an automobile company in Times Square, which had purchased it from the original owner a month before.

At the time Miss Cooke was run down the automobile license number was made out by persons in the street who witnessed the accident. This number was upon the State license issued to the original owner of the auto It was not changed after the motor passed through the hands of the automobile company to the Troy merchant. This, Mr. Karlin says, is a violation of lawe, and he sawys, he will call the attention of the Coroner to it at the inquest next week.
