 | RE: Nancy Burke "In Memory of Nancy Burke, consort of William Burke, born March 1777, died March 26, 1850, Aged 69 years." Which is funny, because 1777 to 1850 is actually 73 years....so either the birthdate is wrong, or her age was wrong, but apparently they didnt realize it in 1850 when they did the stone. oh - there was no stone for her husband William, and the historical society does not have a record of him either. | | | Mary Smith
 | Rebecca Sarah Steed Finch Dea Bev: I was relooking at the Fouts Cemetery near Ottawa, Kansas, Franklin County and I noticed the heading says Rebecca Sarah Steed Smith. The headstone says Rebecca S. Finch. When we were working on proof for DAR and Daughters of the War of 1812 we could not find a hard copy proof of Sarah as being her middle name. Rebecca Sarah Steed Finch was my grandmother and we had always been told that her middle name was Sarah so have it entered in parenthesis on the applications. Do you have any actual proof that her middle name is Sarah? Her son Ernest Hamilton Finch was my father. If you do have proof, I would like to have a copy of it or the source of your information for our records. Thank you. My e-mail address is oldgrandma27@sbcglobal.net. Thanks so much. Mary M. | Cone of Penobscot county Maine Dear Bev,
Just wondering if you know anything about the wife of Warren McPhetres (son of Eleanor Tourtillot, as you know), Mary Cone.
I noticed that in the 1870 census a William Cone was living with Martha Givens, Mary and Warren's daughter, he was a millwright, b. about 1788. Very tempting to imagine that he is Mary's father. There is much more to be said about this if you are interested, but an obvious burial place for William might be the Tannery Cemetery. Just reaching for straws....
