I have been a genealogist for 26 years and actively researching and volunteering for the last 16 years. I have lived in the Santa Barbara area most of my life. See my society's site at http://sbgen.org. We offer research help and lots of local databases. |

You are most welcome, and it's always a great delight when a memorial finds it's way home to family.

|Bill McCarty||Joseph A. Ogden|
Regarding the two graves there in Santa Barbara Cemetery: Elmira Garrett Ogden (1821-1905) and Joseph Armstrong Ogden (1858-1902). Elmira is the mother of Joseph and they did not arrive in CA until 1888 when they moved from Duffau (Erath County) Texas. Recently a photo turned up that had been sent to my grandparents in 1900 that was made of the mother and son. A California Voter list of 1896 shows "Joseph Armstrong Ogden"----blind in left eye.
He suffered from Bright's Disease (form of diabetes. Mary (Ogden) McCarty, older sister of Joseph is my maternal grandmother.
There is no known family connection to any Joseph Ogden (1839-1871). James A. Ogden, husband of Elmira and father to Joseph & Mary, died in 1874 and is buried in Duffau, Texas. The first time that I visited this cemetery was sometime in the 1970s before these headstones were erected. The only logical explanation appears to be that there are two Joseph Ogdens buried there.

Thank you so much for the picture of the headstone of J. Dolores Marquez. He was my husband's great grandfather. I really appreciate it!

Thank you for taking the time to get photo where Mary is buried. I appreciate you taking the time to find out she was buried without a headstone.
