Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired military veteran and law enforcement officer with an endless love of history. Cemeteries are a significant part of that passion, for in them lie the stories, written and unwritten, of my past, our past, this country's past. Together with my wife, Tina, we love wandering through old cemeteries, graveyards, and family burial plots, listening to those stories come alive as we read the tombstones of those who have gone on before. For decades, we have both traveled the globe, researching, where we could, the trail of those people that would eventually lead to us. We are still searching...and if we can help any of you find some of your lost loved ones, then those will be more good days for us. Should we locate your relative or friend, would you do us the favor of a public message of thanks on our volunteer page? We can assure you that your personal words of appreciation really mean a lot, and more than compensate for the petrol we used. Carpe Diem!!!

RE: Re: Solomon Wright
Oh wow! Cool :-) I'm looking forward to it!

Seems to be something that family does. Here's the epitaph he wrote for his mother's memorial. "...the devoted mother of Joseph H. & A.J. Wright who nobly gave her sons to her Countrys cause & watched day & night by the bedside of her starved & dying son while he still survived after his release from prison. When she sank down from fatigue & grief & died."

My grandparents from Bemidji used to always spend the winters down here in Texas. A lot of difference between a Texas winter and a Minnesota one or even and Iowa winter I'm sure!

Ticks! I hope they weren't seed ticks, those are the worst.

Here's a little write up I'm working on on Solomon's family that included the photos you took.

Thanks again for the photos! I'm still trying to find out where Solomon's wife Eleanor was buried. She died in 1911 and was living in Grant Valley. If you even get out there again (but don't go back out just on my account!) maybe take a look around for Eleanor McFarland Wright. Like I said I'm not sure she's there.

RE: Thaddeus Cutler
That is really sad, I'm sorry. Just the fact that you have added his wife and told the story there will help greatly to get that right story told, and it is multiplied by all the children. I'll check for a stone photo for Thaddeus. I want to thank you for your service for our country, I really do appreciate your sacrifices. Luella

Thaddeus Cutler
Hi, I know how frustrating it can be to get these memorials all straightened out. I hope you can get the 2 memorials for Alpheus merged. Since the other is made before yours you should be able to do edits I'd think & straighten out the facts. I sure hope so! If you have any additional information for Thaddeus I'd be happy to add it to his memorial. Luella

RE: Byron Edwards
You went above and beyond the call of duty, but this cemetery sounds pretty fascinating. Thanks to you, it will remain available for others.

Keep up the good work!

I put a little more information on his site. I know I got the right cemetery, it is St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. The problem arises as to what happened to the old St. Peter's Catholic Church in Park Rapids and that location. I am surprised to hear this occur in a small community, but this occurs commonly in large cities, as it is all about a land grab. Thanks again as I am sure there are others affected.

RE: Byron Edwards
The source I used for the cemetery census came from a county genweb site. It may have been in error, but Byron is listed as buried there. Perhaps moved to a different cemetery, or, grave marker is long gone.

Always a mystery to be solved.

RE: Re: Solomon Wright
Sorry to hear you have to go back for a missed one! I'm really impressed you were able to find it. I'be been looking at google maps and think I found the cemetery by your descriptions. I can't seem to get the coordinates converted to digital correctly. :-)
