I hope to photograph all of the Philadelphia cemeteries (hopefully it won't take me too long - though I have some time, I'm 32 now). I'm currently working on photographing the entire Old Cathedral Cemetery, however, have had cemetery workers tell me I can't photograph the headstones. I finished about a third of it and plan to wait a bit to go back and hope they don't ban me. I have about 800 (as of 4/23/13) more photos to do, and hope to be finished that soon. I'm still working on what I photographed in that one trip, it was a large amount of pictures and I become burnt out after awhile and take a few months off. Maybe I will be brave enough to go back soon and hope not to get kicked out.|
If any of the people I list are your relatives within 4 generations, feel free to either request that I transfer ownership or send me any info to update the page. I would love to transfer them since I do not have time to research everyone I list and can only go by the info on headstones and/or death records. Please do so by clicking on the edit button on their memorial and then clicking on suggest a correction. Doing it this way automatically sends me a link to the memorial and your contributor page, both of which I need to transfer. Sometimes I don't have much time to check on this site, so it may take me a bit, but I try to remember.
I make a point of checking to see if a person is listed already before creating a memorial for them and will upload photos to the already existing memorial. Sometimes I miss one or two (because the name is misspelled on original memorial or on the tombstone, the dates don't match up, etc.), if you find I have duplicated someone, let me know and I will remove it and add my photos to the original memorial.

Jane, I was down there in late March 2014 and got all markers photographed in Section Z. I went down there to look for Julia Ann Bowen 1868 and couldn't find it. I am also looking for any of the Bowen family circa 1860-1900. I know many of the markers are gone or are impossible to read.
I'm just curious - why won't they let you take photos in some cemeteries? Do they consider it private property? Just seems petty to me.

I was looking at a couple I believe are related to me but not proven yet. I just wanted to say thank you for taking pictures of the grave sites. It is a big help to researchers and I believe everyone should be remembered.
Those workers should have better things to do than bother you. The Catholic Church should be ashamed of themselves
After all they have put innocent people thru in God's name!
Go back and finish the job when you can and maybe take a friend with you. There are power in numbers.
You are an Angel!

I am new to Find A Grave. My great great grandfather is Daniel McGarry #42642657. His youngest daughter Nellie McGarry is my great grandmother. Thank you for posting Daniel McGarry's headstone. If you would like to transfer this to me have pictures and info to post. Thanks again!
|Michael Gaines||Samuel & Jane McKnight @ Mount Moriah Cemetery|
Neither person has a visible marker at this time, though it could have gotten knocked over and covered by grass over time. They are both buried in Sec 200, Lot 185. Samuel was buried on Nov 23, 1899 and Jane on Dec 20, 1899. They are two of six McKnight's buried here (the other four being Margaret, Jennie, Samuel, and Grace). If you would like, I can get you the burial dates for the others.

I believe this gravemarker is that of my grt grt grt grandfather born in Donegal abt 1792 and died 18 Aug 1872 street address was 3 South 23rd Street, ward 9. His wife was Grace Gallagher who died a few years later. She worked at St Ann's Rectory as a housekeeper.

Thanks so much for your kindness in transferring their memorials to my care! Pam
|Steven Keller||Mai Garesche Norris|
See my memorial for Mai Garesche Norris (Mother Mary of St Anthony, RGS) on Find a Grave #89490110. Thanks to you I was able to attach her parents. I have a photo request out for her grave at Lourdesmont Cemetery in Clarks Summit. Carol Esselborn Fivecoat and I have been trying to get as many Garesche's in the database as possible. There are many buried here in the St Louis area.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day!
